Functionality
editKalles Fraktaler focuses on zooming into fractals. This is possible in the included fractal formulas such like the Mandelbrot set, Burning ship or so called "TheRedshiftRider" fractals. Many tweaks can visualize phenomena better or solve glitches concerning the calculation issues. Other functions are color seeds, slopes for showing iteration depths or entering location parameters in the complex plane. The via zooming reached location can be saved as a KFR file. The rendered image can be saved or be a part of a zoom sequence, which can be later used for a fractal zoom video.
Fork
editThe program got forked to Kalles Fraktaler 2+ with additional functions. The newest release is 2.15.1.6 from 2020/12/08 (December 12, 2020). The license is AGPLv3+.[2]
Tips and tricks
editMany features offered by the fork of Kalles Fraktaler can be confusing to use, and deducing their purpose may take hours. Below are a few helpful tips and tricks to maximize the quality of images and videos.
- A couple fractals, like the Burning ship and Perpendicular Mandelbrot fractals, have very stretched areas that require stretching of one's own to view. However, the fork has moved the Skew feature to Transformations. Fractals can be stretched by minimizing the Kalles Fraktaler window, hitting CTRL + T, and using right-click to stretch the fractal.
- In the "Fraktal--Formula" window, users can edit the exponent of certain fractals, seed values, edit properties of a function called Gaussian jitter, and much more. There are also many unique fractal formulae specific to the program, the most notable being the "RedShiftRider" formulae.
- Hybrid Formulas are a feature of the fork that allow the user to combine features of certain fractals. There are up to four windows that can be enable with a checkbox on the right. Other checkboxes alter different parts of fractals. There are no windows to select specific fractals, instead the checkboxes must be used.
- When using the Key Frames Movie Maker, a program related to Kalles Fraktaler, there are various settings that can be changed. It is necessary for users to manually enable slopes, change color density in the "Color Division" box, cycle colors in "Color Cycling", and much more.
- Kalles Fraktaler makes use of perturbation and series approximation, which use estimation to lower rendering times. Specifics can be altered in the "Advanced" category of features. Many more features can be accessed here.
