Opera Colorado chooses Dr. Michael P. Bautista as the Scenic Designer for the world premiere. His unit set was the answer for the production because it had to travel and the set changes had to take place rapidly so it wouldn't interfere with the pacing of the production. So it was designed with a variety of moveable parts that helped the scenic changes and it looked like a traditional Mexican dwelling, a hotel and an airport to support the locations for each scene and act. The production used three dimensional scenic elements as well projections to set the locations. Dr. Bautista was mentored by Dr. Forrest Newlin, a well known designer in the Midwest and Southeast part of the United States.
