editWhat's the problem with image:Pakistan location map.svg? The SVG-file is higher quality than Image:Pakistan basic locator map.png. --Obersachse (talk) 23:20, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you compare the two maps you will see the second outlines the area of Kashmir that is divided between the neighbouring countries. If you look at |Template:Location map India it clearly shows the areas governed and claimed by India.
- Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and claimed by both. The map for India outlines the contested area under Pakistani (and Chinese) control. The Png map delineates areas under Indian control. The SVG map makes no such distinction and only delineates the Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir from Pakistan - but doesn't do similarly for Indian territory. See this map for the full area. For the sake of balance both locator maps for the two nations should delineate the contested areas.
- If you compare the two maps you will see the SVG version separates the Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir. Pahari Sahib 15:39, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- The border of Kashmir in India is added. I think it's okay that the SVG doesn't show the whole of Kashmir and ends at the Line of Control. In 1947 Kashmir became a part of India and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to show all contested borders worldwide. Then it would be impossible to create e.g. a map of the Middle East. It's the difference between wish/claim and reality. --NNW (talk) 18:54, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not all of Kashmir became part of India in 1947, also looking at the Middle East maps - disputed areas are delineated/highlighted, the Syrian maps show the "Golan Heights", not quite the same Kashmir situation between Pakistan and India but highlighted none the less. All I was asking for is for the sake of balance both maps should delineate the contested areas. I don't see the problem in including the whole of the Kashmir region in the map - however the borders on the new map are fine though. Pahari Sahib 09:02, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- So you wouldn't raise objections now to the use of Pakistan location map.svg in the template? --Obersachse (talk) 09:41, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- The Golan Heights are highlighted in the map of Syria because they belong to Syria and are just occupied by Israel. That's quite a difference to Kashmir. But okay, I capitulate and expand the map to show the whole area. I just hope this won't give the reason to discuss maps to come: China and Arunachal Pradesh, Morocco and Western Sahara... Btw the problem with expanding the map is that the relevant area (Pakistan) will become smaller in infoboxes and worse to see without a big advantage because town and hills in Jammu and Kashmir are shown with the India template. I just think this is a waste of space as this new part of this map won't be used anywhere. --NNW (talk) 10:10, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
