Newton Araújo da Costa Júnior (born 12 March 2000), simply known as Newton, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Criciúma, on loan from Botafogo.

Career
editBorn in Salvador, Bahia, Newton joined Jacuipense's youth categories in 2018.[1] He made his senior debut with the club on 19 January 2019, coming on as a half-time substitute in a 2–1 Campeonato Baiano away loss to Bahia de Feira, before returning to the under-20s.
Definitely promoted to the main squad in February 2021,[1] Newton featured rarely before moving to Bahia de Feira in the Série D on loan on 4 June of that year.[2] Upon returning, he became a regular starter for Jacupa, scoring his first senior goal on 22 May 2022 in a 1–1 away draw against ASA.
On 8 August 2022, Newton signed for Botafogo and was initially assigned to the under-23 team.[3] He made his Série A debut on 3 December 2023, coming on as a late substitute for Gabriel Pires in a 0–0 home draw against Cruzeiro.[4]
