Sarai gives Abram her maid-servant Hagar to bear him children. Hagar becomes pregnant and despises Sarai who then expels Hagar from the home. Hagar flees into the wilderness, where the Angel of the Lord appeared to her. The angel tells her to return, and she has a son named Ishmael.
