A dictionary is a list of words with their definitions, a list of characters with their glyphs, or a list of words with corresponding words in other languages. In some languages, words can appear in many different forms, but only the lemma form appears as the main word or headword in most dictionaries. Many dictionaries also provide pronunciation information; grammatical information; word derivations, histories, or etymologies; illustrations; usage guidance; and examples in phrases or sentences. Dictionaries are most commonly found in the form of a book.
In telephony, a telephone directory (also called a telephone book) is a listing of telephone subscribers in a geographical area or subscribers to services provided by the organisation that publishes the directory.
Subscriber names are generally listed in alphabetical order, together with their postal or street address and telephone number. Every subscriber in the geographical coverage area is usually listed, but some subscribers can request the exclusion of their number from the directory. Their number is then said to be "unlisted" (American English) or "ex-directory" (British English).
An anthology, literally "a garland" or "collection of flowers," is a collection of literary works, originally of poems, but in recent years its usage has broadened to be applied to collections of short stories and comic strips. In genre fiction and especially science fiction, anthology is used to categorize collections of shorter works such as short stories, Novelettes up through short novels all collected into a (usually single) volume for publication.
The word derives from the Greek word for garland — or bouquet of flowers — which was the title of the earliest surviving anthology, assembled by Meleager of Gadara. Meleager's Garland became the seed that grew into the Greek Anthology. The term miscellany is also used, but was more common in the past.
A coloring book is a type of book containing line art for a reader to add color using crayons, colored pencils, or similar implements.
Coloring books are generally used by children, though coloring books for adults are also available. Coloring books cover a wide range of subjects, from simple stories for children to intricate or abstract designs for adults. Some coloring books are designed with perforated edges for their pages to be removed from the books and used as individual sheets while others may include a story line and is thus intended to remain intact.
Today many children's coloring books feature popular cartoon characters. They are often used as promotional materials for animated motion pictures.
