Status report from the Portals WikiProject

edit

Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018.

Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, and design the portals of the future.

As of April 29th, membership is at 56 editors, and growing.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for each component of portals.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Coatrack article

edit

I came across the article Pyruvate cycling earlier today. The article as it stands is almost impossible for someone well versed in the area to comprehend, and it appears to simply be a WP:COATRACK for a load of papers. It doesn't seem like a legit article at this point. I'm sure the topic is legit, but the article is nowhere near Wikipedia standards. Can someone more versed in this take a look as I'll only delete all the further reading and coatrack elements. Cheers. Canterbury Tail talk 11:50, 3 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a question better suited for the science reference desk. —andrybak (talk) 01:30, 10 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Revitalise the biology portal?

edit

Should we keep editing this portal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryan busse (talkcontribs) 19:00, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm afraid it's flogging a dead horse. Websites need portals when other navigation mechanisms are lacking; but we have 1) Wikilinks 2) Main and Further links 3) See also sections 4) Navbars, navboxes 5) Categories 6) WikiProjects 7) probably several other mechanisms I've forgotten to mention. A portal basically just rehashes existing content, and if I was to be unkind I'd say "less well". We don't need'em, specially in a very well-linked area like bio.
