Hello again, guys. I'm pleased you've used my (Portal:Bulgaria) edition of the portal design and I'm happy there's now a portal on the Republic of Macedonia, but you surely know already that some people get offended by the single use of Macedonia to denote the country. To tell you the truth, it is a bit vague really, and what I first thought when I saw it on the Wikipedia:Community Portal was a portal about the region of Macedonia, this including the parts in Greece and Bulgaria. Anyway, it's up to you to decide and I'm not too keen on starting yet another argument, I'm just offering a suggestion that moving it to Portal:Republic of Macedonia may be the better decision. Regards,   → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov 16:32, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suppose every country should have its portal. We have much to learn about the ROM. There also exists a clear precedent that indicates that the portal should be called 'Portal: Republic of Macedonia'. The last thing we need is for people to point at this article as proof that there exist a militant body of Macedonian (Slavs) who are active in blurring the difference between ROM and the 'region', who are promoting a 'Greater Macedona' across 4 neighbouring counries. This portal is full of good intentions and should be a true window to the Republic's unique qualities, but as it stands, it violates the basic principle articulated in Skopje of keeping 'equal distance from its neighbours', it invades them. Please guys, you who began this portal, help us out.Politis 10:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

About this portal

edit

Hello. This portal represents a small part of the region of Macedonia (only FYROM). You can't monopolised this name - it should be renamed. The Greek and Bulgarian Macedonia have nothing to do with it. As it is written, it seems just like, it is refering in all Macedonian region.--Makedonas 03:09, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The name of the portal follows the naming conventions used for portals on Wikipedia: every portal for a country uses country’s short name, as: Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece etc (not the country’s official name, for example, the official name of Greece is Hellenic Republic, but the portal is simply named with Greece). I do know that there are regions in Greece and Bulgaria that are called Aegean or Pirin Macedonia (for example Greece is divided on 13 regions and 3 of them are containing Macedonia in the name) and you can freely describe that in the portals about your countries (Greece and Bulgaria), even you can create sub portals for your regions as well (we have such examples on Wikipedia: United States (New York City, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin). Meanwhile, I will try to reduce the mentioning of your regions in the article. Please, don’t bother with the name of the portal of my country, instead, make good faith contribution to the article. Bitola 08:03, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is that really so dear Bitola, look at Portal:People's Republic of China. They do not monopolize the of the entire region like you and your propaganda pusher colleagues are trying to do. And by the way, the state of Wisconsin is not a part of some larger geographical area of Wisconsin and no other country has territories under the name of Wisconsin. Also, there is no Portal:America, rather there exists Portal:United States of America, altough interally the country is simpy referred to as America, so you cannot use the argument "just because we call ourselves like that" FunkyFly 20:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you want to make a portal about Macedonia as an area, then in the first sentence of the opening paragraph should be mentioned that it is NOT one country, and spans the territory of 4 countries. FunkyFly 20:50, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
You know the issue well enough, I believe, and there has been enough discussion both here on Wikipedia and everywhere else. The current name of the portal is vague and possibly offensive to a number of people. When there is ambiguity that could mislead the readers, it has to be removed — if the article about the Republic of Macedonia carries the name Republic of Macedonia and not simply Macedonia, which is a disambiguation page, then this is how it should be. I'm not only going to leave matters the way they are, but I intend to address the issue on a higher level. This problem has to be solved once and for all.   → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov 10:09, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I filed a request for arbitration for the naming conventions of the Macedonia related articles: Wikipedia:RFAR#Macedonia_naming_dispute. Bitola 14:37, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Macedonia is the short name. Republic of Macedonia is the official. And this portal has no intention of insulting anybody (nor "Makedonas" - which is BTW a name that noone sourced it, due to really those people are declaring like that, or "Makedonci (regional)", about which also I'm not sure that is in use), it just represents Macedonia. So, no-need for panic. Bomac 22:18, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just because it is not meant to insult it does mean it does not. FunkyFly 23:36, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know, this is not a philosophy course. And, don't point only for regional Macedonians, think of Macedonians - the dignity of their name. They are nationality for god sake, not Bulgarians or Greeks, and not some regional expression. Bomac 23:41, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Your polemic is so amusing, and so out of place in this discussion. FunkyFly 00:40, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Don't pull it too much! You made FYROM, "republic of Macedonia" and then just "Macedonia". If you think that wikipedia is only a propaganda keep going, but you don't solve the problem like it, you just make things worse.--Makedonas 00:59, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

this portal should either be renamed "R. of M.", or change its scope to be about the entire region, viz. including Greek stuff about Greek Macedonia. "no intention to offend" is not good enough. There has been enough hubbub in high politics about the name so that every child now knows that the term is provocative, and the official name of the country is Republic of Macedonia. So if that's what the portal is supposed to be about, use this name. dab () 09:45, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does it happening sometimes to you ♠people to think about our opinion, about how we are feeling and how we are getting offended by seeing your constant attempts to change our real name in every single article related to our country? It is realy easy to bother with the name, nationality, language… of other nation. Just think once how you will feel and how you will act if someone is doing the same to you. Bitola 11:37, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

This portal name, insults all Macedonians in Greece, and makes problem bigger. STOP FYROM's PROPAGANDA IN WIKIPEDIA.--Makedonas 11:47, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Matia, don't change the current redirect to the portal:Republic of Macedonia because we agreed to do that until (if) someday we create the portal about the region. Bitola 12:31, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

If we're going to be playing redirect games, I just made a Portal:FYROM. Enjoy... --Latinus 12:48, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

p.s. By the way, it's all easy to talk whatever you please here on the English wiki, but come to the Macedonian wiki and face the real facts about things. We all know that the parts of Macedonia that are now in Greece and Bulgaria were confiscated in the first half of the 20th century. This is official history, indesputable. And yet, you have the guts to talk about some sort of "Greek Macedonia" or "Western Bulgaria". Preposterous... --B. Jankuloski 10:39, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Based on your interest in the Balkans, you may be interested in the currently ongoing debate on whether we should be using Kosovo or Kosovar/Kosovan as the adjective for Kosovo. —Nightstallion 16:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism on this page and nobody notices it!

edit

This page is heavily vandalized and as I can see from its history, this vandalism has been here for a long, long time... And nobody does anything.... I tried to find the original version, but I cannot find it. Also, there are some other changes done meanwihile, and reversing this vandalism need a little bit mora than just a simple click on revert button.... --Maduixa (talk) 16:21, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean... Can the vandals take a break please? This article needs editing but how about some constructive editing(?) Politis (talk) 16:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mother Theresa

edit

Since when is Mother Theresa Macedonian?! She was of Albanian ethnicity and born in Skopje, hardly a "great Macedonian humanitarian". If you have evidence that supports otherwise, please share with the community, but do not post things that conflict with even the main article about the person in question. Philly boy92 (talk) 21:07, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

It was added by an anonymous user (91.13.236.216) over 1 year ago but it seems that no one noticed it. --Local hero talk 22:59, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Requested move 18 February 2019

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved early, there've been loads of RMs on Macedonia recently, consensus is to file any "Republic of" remaining ones as technical requests. (closed by non-admin page mover) SITH (talk) 22:37, 19 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Republic of North MacedoniaPortal:North Macedonia – (with all its subpages). The head article was moved from Republic of Macedonia to North Macedonia at an exceptionally well-attended RM discussion at Talk:North_Macedonia#Requested_move_8_February_2019, which was closed as overwhelming consensus that now is the right time to move this article.
The portal should follow the same name, and was WP:BOLDly moved[1] to Portal:North Macedonia by @BrandonXLF, who then self-reverted because there were too many subpages.[2] It was then moved[3] to Portal:Republic of North Macedonia by new editor @FirePolyglot, again without discussion.
Time to bring this into line. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 06:48, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Template:Country data MKD

edit

I think in the template {{Country data MKD}} there should be some changes made:

If I use {{flagcountry|MKD|1992}} it appears   North Macedonia and I think it should be   Macedonia. Also there is no label 1995. Here is a table what I think the behaviour should be. If there is a consensus, I would edit the template.

usage result should
{{flagcountry|MKD|1992}}
  North Macedonia   Macedonia
{{flagcountry|MKD|1995}}
  North Macedonia   Macedonia
{{flagcountry|MKD}}
  North Macedonia   North Macedonia
{{flagcountry|NMK}}
  North Macedonia   North Macedonia
Looks correct to me, thanks. --Local hero talk 07:11, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

2020 portal updates

edit

The following updates were performed to the North Macedonia portal in April 2020. North America1000 21:32, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Added a new topics section.
  • Updated portal using Template:Transclude random excerpt, which provides readers with current, up-to-date information that is verbatim to that in articles. A consensus approving the usage of transclusion templates in portals was formed at this Village Pump discussion.
  • Added more articles to, and consolidated articles into, the Selected article (SA) section. Content in areas such as the Folklore and Places section was previously static, displaying the same information for a great deal of time. Articles in such areas have been moved to the SA section and the stale areas commented-out.
  • Expanded Portal:North Macedonia/Selected picture, which was previously static with only one image, to contain 23 subpages. These images are now randomly displayed in the portal.

Vejce Massacre

edit

I would like to edit the title of the Vejce Ambush to Vejce Massacre, as it was a killing of multiple people not just an ambush. Global media outlets have called it a massacre. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2001/apr/30/balkans — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macedonia1913 (talkcontribs) 17:12, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Looking at the sources used in that article, both terms are used. I'm not seeing a clearly preferred term checking Google web and books results. The article was created in February 2015 as Vejce Massacre but was renamed to Vejce Ambush in August 2017 and it has remained at that title since. If you'd like to be bold and change the title, I wouldn't oppose it but be prepared to discuss if someone else reverts it. --Local hero talk 20:25, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
