Stops
editWhat is the Wikipedia policy on tram, streetcar, bus, minibus, and lightrail stops? Is there a policy? How about articles like South Pier tram stop? Shall we have a Wikipedia article on every stop on six continents? Hu 22:22, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Ship portal
editHow do I request one?
Nautical portal
editI created a Nautical Portal. I was tempted to call it Marine Transport, but that would have semantically excluded military, research, fishing, and other types of special-purpose ships and boats. Cheers. Haus42 21:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Headline of the netherlands motorways are all wrong
editAll netherlands "nl:rijksweg" have a wrong headline in the english wikipedia. I.e. nl:rijksweg 9 is described in english Wipedia as A9 motorway (Netherlands). But a rijksweg is not a motorway.
- Rijksweg translates as national highway, a road maintained by the national government.
- The road's profile (ordinary road or motorway, level or split-level crossings, interchanges, number of lanes etc.) depends on the expected traffic density.
- A rijksweg with A-number is a motorway = nl:autosnelweg, a rijksweg with N-number is not a motorway = nl:autoweg.
I.e. the nl:rijksweg 9 is only partly a motorway (A-street) and partly a N-street. Thus the headline A9 motorway (Netherlands) in the English Wikipedia is not correct.
- Compare nl:Provinciale weg:
- Provinciale weg translates as provincial highway, a road maintained by the provincial government.
- The road's profile (ordinary road or motorway, level or split-level crossings, interchanges, number of lanes etc.) depends on the expected traffic density.
- A provinciale weg with A-number is a motorway = nl:autosnelweg, a provinciale weg with N-number is not a motorway = nl:autoweg.
Thus all motorway (netherlands) could be renamed. Because I am not a native english speaker and my English is not good enough for editing articles, I cannot do this. I do not know which correct names can be used for this in english. Possibly i.e. the A9 motorway (Netherlands) should be simply called Rijksweg 9 (Netherlands), similar i.e. to the german Bundesautobahn 1, which is not called A1 motorway (germany). For all other languages of wikipedia it is important that the netherlands system is described correct here, because they translate it from here. And because it is wrong here, the translations are also wrong at the moment. Could someone of the nartives speakers help this situation?
Thank you. -- 84.132.101.93 09:52, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Probalby a new name like Rijksweg 9 without the (Netherlands) would suffice. HenkvD 11:35, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. You can simply use the same titles as the Dutch Wikipedia. I see no reason not to use them. --Erwin85 18:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah that sounds fine. On pages like A9 road, it could say "A9 in the Netherlands, part of Rijksweg 9, or A9 (Netherlands) redirects to Rijksweg 9. Just an easy way so I don't have to fumble through four or five pages to get to the article. Also you should do the same with N9 and all the others. --MPD T / C 23:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Did something change in the process? Since none of the mentioned articles were changed? Sitethief~talk to me~ 00:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Virgin America article(posting here as well since Airlines is so far unresponsive)
editIf you would all be so kind as to review the issue being discussed at this article and weigh in with your opinion I would appreciate it. We'd like to incur a larger, more objective, unemotional share of input then what exists right now. Thank you very much for your time and we really appreciate it. 68.52.42.38 (talk) 04:54, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

perspective of wikipedia coverage of sustainable transport
editSince the early 19th century rich countries have drifted into an energy glut, which has had dramatic effects on our transport systems - so much so that many people believe "traffic = motor traffic". Walking and cycling still go on, and some policy makers actively encourage both, while others favour power-driven vehicles (most of which are much heavier than their payload and are designed to travel fast, so they consume far more energy than walking or cycling and also create a discouraging atmosphere for would-be walkers and cyclists).
Looking at the articles on Sustainable transport and on Utility cycling, I feel that the energy efficiency aspect (which will become more important in the future) has been underplayed. Would it be possible to add links to Walking and Utility cycling at the top of the Environmentally sustainable transport section? Would it be possible to insert a comparison of energy consumption between walking, straight cycling, power-assisted cycling, electric cars, petrol-driven cars and various forms of public transport (at real-life levels of ridership) somewhere?
I hesitate to simply wade in and start editing existing articles because the authors might well resent such intervention - but if I could collaborate with them on enhancing such articles, I'd be very pleased.
Incidentally, I'm a self-employed mobility consultant in Austria with quite some experience of the practical side of transport policy at the local and regional levels.

- My gut feeling says that your suggestions are excellent and would be welcome additions to this portal. I should tell you that I am not one of the "involved" editors who maintain this portal and am here solely to upgrade any shortcuts to this portal that exist. I do like to check talk pages because sometimes they also have shortcuts, and I caught your message above. Please never hesitate to "simply wade in", because that's what Wikipedia's all about. For any edits that turn out to be either controversial or perhaps misunderstood by involved editors (those will probably be reverted), that is when discussion should ensue. Please read Wikipedia:Be bold and especially Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle for more information. Joys! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 17:50, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Hyperloop
editI would like to add some information regarding emerging concepts, such as the "hyperloop" to the portal, is there an area for future designs that are being placed into production, or does this concept fit into a specific category already before-mentioned? Interlingual Link Error
editI clicked the German Wikipedia link (Deutsch) and was led to the Userpage of Wollex.
While I entered wikidata page, I discoverd a normal link to the correspondent Portal in German de:Portal:Transport_und_Verkehr.
I tried entering German Portal page from portal of other languages. The error doesn't exist.
Why could there be a normal link, but I can't go to the Portal in German from Portal in English?
Who know the key? Come fix it!

Portal copy edited
editIn response to the neutral point of view concerns that have been presented regarding this portal at its MfD discussion, I have removed most, but not entirely all of the U.S.-based entries from the portal (diff). Removing all of the U.S. based portals would conversely present a non-neutral point of view of intentionally avoiding all U.S. based topics. Per this, I have also removed some U.K-related articles, because after removing the U.S.-based articles to balance it out, the portal would have been slightly slanted toward U.K. related topics.
The portal would certainly now benefit from more additions to further round it out in relation to presenting additional transport-related articles from various areas of the world. I hesitate to add any new articles to it, because at this point, article selections should be discussed here on the talk page. Of course, now one could state that there are too many or not enough of one type or another type of topic present in the portal, such as it now having too many engine-related transport articles, as in articles involving transport regarding vehicles that use engines, not enough animal-powered transport articles, too many port-related and nautical-related articles, too many historical-related articles, too many articles that involve modern aspects of transport, not enough aviation-related articles, etc., and also vice-versa per these notions. Furthermore, it could be argued that some transport-related topics are presently not covered in the portal. So, if the portal is retained, I encourage talk page discussion to occur.
As I have stated at the MfD discussion, there was no intention of creating a non-neutral portal. Articles were added relative to WP:POG, where it states, "For the Selected article, Selected biography or other Selected content items, find a good number of articles, as many as you can, that could be showcased on the portal" that are "of high quality, either a featured article, a good article or one which deals with its subject substantially or comprehensively". While WP:POG is no longer a guideline page, many portals are still based upon it, and it is common sense to use high-quality articles in portals. However, I certainly understand that article selections in portals should not favor one geographic area over another, and that elements of systemic bias that may exist in various areas of English Wikipedia should not be reflected in portals.
The following is a list of articles that are presently being used in the portal as transclusions after the above edit occurred on 13 November 2019 (UTC)
