History
editThe inaugural tournament was won by The Wednesday, who defeated Heeley 4–3 in the 1876–77 final.[2] From 1893–94 to 1895–96, the competition was played in a league format. From 1925–26 to 1945–46 the competition was split into two, with the Sheffield & Hallamshire Invitation Cup acting as the more senior competition. The current champions are Worksop Town, who won their record 14th title after defeating Penistone Church 5–0 in the 2023–24 final.[3]
Worksop Town, along with Frickley Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday is joint-record holder for the most titles won.
