The real versions of the deaths portrayed on the show

edit

I really appreciate whoever is finding out the actual versions of the deaths on the show, before they were changed on this show to protect the identities of the deceased. I hope more will be posted in the future. However, when I looked up David Zaback's name on Google, I couldn't find a video of it. I guess the video highlighting his death was never leaked.

Some of the death are based on injuries. The deathes are not always related to one specific person. They don't tell you the dates and the places have been changed. Here is the deaths some episodes are based on.(link provided)Most of the stories are based from the Darwin awards.

¶ Some of the stories on the show are so unique and newsworthy that I made a point of checking them out using Lexis-Nexis newsclipping service. What I found: Not only does the TV show change the names, it also changes dates and places; something that probably doesn't matter to 99% of the audience. But also it spices up the stories: The news reports occasionally made the point that the deceased was just an ordinary guy, not trying to cause trouble, but the TV show adds fictional details to make the deceased seem to be seriously crazy or criminal or conniving, so nobody feels any sympathy for departed -- I suppose a hangover of the old Hayes Code that justice should triumph. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sussmanbern (talkcontribs) 16:12, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

This sentence makes no sense. "Despite this warning, it should be noted that most of these stories are based on urban legends or supposed incidents that have not been confirmed (much like the famous Darwin Awards) although a huge majority of them ARE based on real deaths." It can't be that "most" stories are only urban legends and yet "a huge majority" are based on real deaths. RolandStJude (talk) 04:08, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Narrator

edit

With Spike crunching the credits to advertise other shows, I couldn't see them, but judging from what I heard while watching the show, I'm pretty sure the narrator is Ron Perlman. Olioster (talk) 02:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reads like a pitch

edit

Reads like a pitch. In fact, I'd be willing to bet it's a word-for-word reproduction of some Spike TV description of the show. Needs to be replaced wholesale with something at least plausibly objective. 99.49.37.203 (talk) 05:12, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

1000 Ways to Die

I noticed you removed a bulk of the text. I am not sure it was a wp:copyvio, as the copy is straight from the production company's press release and website. I have first hand info on the show but have been searching for decent references and a better description.--Mvemkr (talk) 07:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Neither copyright violations nor press releases are encyclopedic, and my edit summary, for clarity, included the timestamp of the edit which padded the stub.
This discussion should be moved to the article talk page. — Athaenara 15:00, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

are the dates and locations changed as well? what stops this show from being pure fiction? there is no way to check the information that I can find. 75.182.124.81 (talk) 21:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The stories are "based" on actual events. Dates, people, locations are all changed and I am sure there is some dramatic license taken. That is why this is not classified as Reality TV.--Mvemkr (talk) 01:45, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, many of these items seem like "plausible" urban legends, not real events. I suspect that many of them are not real events, but how can you prove that something *didn't* happen? Xsmasher (talk) 06:48, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if this helps, or even if I'm sure I saw it (as I was very tired and fighting insomnia), but I could swear the "Weed Whacked" segment claimed the events took place in the "Diablo Desert" outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 8th of some year. There may be a place in Indiana farther south than my home in Lexington, Ky, but I doubt it's far enough south to have a desert, or to have poison sumac with leaves in February. (And, let me assure you! Nothing in February in Lexington, Ky has anything green on it, unless it's a pine or a douglas fir!) Dahile00 (talk) 16:39, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jack 'n' Croak'd is actually the death of Jack Daniel

edit

the death of Jasper, in Jack 'n' Croak'd from the episode "Bringing In The Dead" is actually the death of Jack Daniel's founder Jack Daniel, who died after getting an infection in the foot after kicking the safe after he forgot the code and got angry. his real name was Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel, they simply just call him as Jasper to "Protect his name".--Boutitbenza 69 9 (talk) 08:33, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

"A Guitar Player Gets Unplugged"

edit

"It is expected that one of the deaths in the future episode "Come on get Deathy" is based off of Keith Relf's death."

It's a possibility, but it could be something different. That could be a guitar player that played too loud, exceeding 200 decibels as was once demonstrated on MANswers. I don't know if that quote should be on just yet. --Geekboy6 (talk) 04:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Episode 10"

edit

Is it really appropriate to use the term "rednecks" in the synopsis of the first "way to die"? This is a disparaging term (according to wikipedia even), so is it really acceptable? I mean we wouldn't use the "n-word" to describe an uneducated group of African-Americans, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.69.109.132 (talk) 20:04, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Its not whether its appropriate, its exactly how they were described on the show(by the narrator). BTW Rednecks refers to Caucasian-Americans not African-Americans. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.91.80.252 (talk) 18:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Episode list

edit

Shouldn't there be a List of 1000 Ways to Die episodes article? Other TV show articles (provided they last more than ten episodes) have articles listing their episodes rather than listing them on the TV show's article. For example, the South Park article does not list the episodes on the article. It has a separate article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lord Oblivion (talkcontribs) 18:51, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

True, nearly every TV show with a page also has an episodes page. I am in favor of this idea. Str8cash (talk) 00:46, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I honestly don't think that would be a good idea. In theory it sounds good but now that it's ctually been done. I find the main article looks horribly short, then again it did look quite cluttered before. Lose-Lose situation to me it would seem. Maybe try to add some more information to the main article? 173.190.14.184 (talk) 21:45, 18 April 2010 (UTC)KelseyReply

Excuse me for pointing this out...

edit

...but three of the ways to die were numbered "412": "Em-Bear-Assed" from episode 4, "Death Over Easy", "ReTired" from episode 17, "Bringing In The Dead", and "S**t Canned" from episode 19, "Come On, Get Deathy". And I'd like to point out a couple more ways to die. The last story from episode 11, "Death: A User's Manual", and the first story from episode 23, "Dead to Rights", were both titled "Blown Job". Do you think that Spike TV would correct these mistakes? Thanks.
