Talk:157th Georgia General Assembly
Is the assembly number correct?
editThe current assembly is listed as the 157th. However, looking at a history of the earliest assemblies, the 1st occurred in 1777. Unless Georgia switched to single-year elections for a significant amount of years along the way, the assembly number should actually be the 123rd based off of the calculation: (2023 - 1777) / 2 = 123, (the current post-election year, the first assembly year, and the term length for Georgia, respectively).
The fact that the earlier assembly wiki articles do not have sources (or their sources make no mention of an assembly number) leads me to believe that the assembly numbers listed in Wikipedia are off by a wide margin, unless Georgia state actually reports their assembly number somewhere. - I just looked into this and added a citation from the legislature. As to when they started and how the counting actually works, I am unsure. Thanks! Brad (talk) 01:47, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks adding that citation Brad! Good to see that the number has an official source. RubberFerret (talk) 03:44, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
