All of the google hits I can find for the earthquake, named as it is in this article, refer back here. This should almost certainly be the East Smyrna earthquake, or better Izmir or perhaps even better Aydin as that is the location given by the Boğaziçi Üniversitesi catalogue of historical earthquakes for an event on 23 February 1653. I propose that the article be changed to 1653 Aydin earthquake. Mikenorton (talk) 14:58, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually I see in the template at the bottom of the page that it should be East Izmir (not Smyrna as by then it was under Ottoman control), the NGDC page on the event gives an epicenter a little north of Aydin, but well east of Izmir. I'm sticking to my suggestion above. Mikenorton (talk) 15:10, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
