Background section
editAfter a short intro section, this article leaps right into the planning and personnel of the expedition. It really could use a "Background" section, possibly starting with the realization that Everest was the world's tallest, and a short run-through of the previous failed expeditions (Needn't detail them all, one imagines). --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 12:27, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
9th expedition?
edit"The 1953 British Mount Everest expedition was the ninth British mountaineering expedition to attempt the first ascent of Mount Everest". Was it really ninth expedition? As I understand, there were British expedition to M. Everest at 1921, 1922, 1924, 1933 and 1953: five expeditions in all. When other four expeditions were? What is source to prove this? It is a fact that they used Snowdownia to prepare. Are there any presentable facts on this? There is no mention of this.
