Conflict: type of plane

edit

The introduction and infobox state that that the aircraft was a Lockheed L-749A Constellation, but the Aircraft section of the article says it was an L-649A. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 17:29, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry it was my typo when I created it - has been corrected. MilborneOne (talk) 17:44, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Graeme. This is what our source says (my italics):

"the starboard wing broke off at the root and the aircraft was already on fire when it came to rest on its back."

So, I thought I better paraphrase it a bit. But, I will leave it up to your judgment. --71.178.50.222 (talk) 21:20, 30 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The are limits to what can be done with brief passages. And I think we can claim a little leeway at this level of the article development. Worst case, if no other combination of words can manage to put over the facts and you are left with what looks like a direct lift from the source, I'd suggest putting quotes either side of the words that do match eg 'the right wing broke off where it was attached to the fuselage; the aircraft was "already on fire when it came to rest". That said, if I recall correctly there is an expectation that reporting of plain facts eg in a newspaper is not covered by copyright in the same way that a novelist or historian's prose is. But don't take my word on that. GraemeLeggett (talk) 21:46, 30 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
