Orphaned references in 2009 swine flu outbreak in Europe
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 2009 swine flu outbreak in Europe's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

editThis was previously removed from the Ireland section before the article was split:

Two men and a woman from Bielefeld who had been firstly suspected of having the virus tested negative on influenza type A.[7]
On April 29, the first case of swine flu in Germany was confirmed by the Robert Koch Institute in the area of Regensburg.[8][9][10] A 22-year-old woman from Hamburg is also confirmed to have been infected by swine flu during a trip to Mexico.[10] A 37-year-old woman from Kulmbach is also confirmed to have become infected during a similar trip.[10]
On May 1, Robert Koch Institute confirmed the first case of human-to-human spreading of swine flu in Munich. Infected was the nurse who had contact with one of the infected people. At approx. 10:00 she was claimed to be already healed.[11] At the time of 13:00 one further infection in Bavaria was confirmed, but the patient is also claimed to be healthy again.[12]
On May 2, a new human-to-human infection, in the same hospital in Munich, was confirmed. The new patient, who was in the same room with the original infected German that came from Mexico, is currently being reported to show no signs of the new influenza strain anymore.[13]
On May 3, two further cases of swine flu in Brandenburg were reported. Two people from the same flight as patient in Hamburg. were also infected [14]

- Yes, I'll amend the maps. However, I believe this is partially due to the fact that the WHO regional office for Europe includes Cyprus, Turkey, and other territories (e.g., ex-Soviet republics and Israel!) For this reason, I believe the articles should adhere to inclusions per continental articles (e.g., Europe, Asia) and per the United Nations geoscheme, which list countries by continents and various regions. It would be very odd to include Israel, for instance, in the entry for Europe when very clearly it is not part of that continent. Otherwise, the article would have to be named '2009 flu pandemic in World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe' or whatever. However, I'm flexible. France
editA new article has shown up, 2009 flu pandemic in France. Do we really need this article? It's not so long, and the section in this article isn't long enough to justify a split in any case. The French Wikipedia's article on France is up for deletion as being unnecessary. 70.29.212.226 (talk) 06:45, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Do not hesitate to merge the information you find the most relevant in the section dedicated to France if you wish. But I guess that timelines of the flu by country should not be merged in this article. HDDTZUZDSQ (talk) 11:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Graph of Europe at the top of the article shows France in black, as "Confirmed cases followed by death". However, the map specific to France shows no black colour. Daniel Callejas Sevilla (talk) 17:34, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Don't merge the article back in. France is a large enough country to deserve a seperate article. My one point is at least the overseas departments (French Guiana etc.) should have their swine flu issues covered in the France article.Johnpacklambert (talk) 15:26, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

First death in Spain
editIt has been confirmed today (June 30) that a Moroccan inmigrant woman, aged 20, has died of the flu at Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Madrid. She was pregnant 6 months and a half pregnant and suffered asthma. The doctors made a cesarean section yesterday to save the baby. He is well for the moment but it is unknown if he could have been infected. Some sources:

split Greece
editI oppose a split, since there's not even enough stuff to make a reasonable sized section right now, let alone an article. There isn't even an article in Greek on Greece. 70.29.208.69 (talk) 07:15, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I put an advertisement in the Portugal's section to split the article, we have many information to put on, just need work and a little bit work (because we haven't saved all the sources that can be avaliabe to produce a good article). But since the confirmation of the first case, until today, many as happens here, the governement, emterprises, schools, shooping centers, concert halls, etc, are taking care of the emergency planes, that sould be put on way in September (with the beggining of a new academic year, ect), so I think that there are sufficient informations now, to Portugal has his own article cheers João P. M. Lima (talk) 15:00, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think Portugal's section should be split - there isn't enough information to split the article. I agree it really should be updated but not split. I also agree that a split on Greece is not needed due to the lack of information, however it should be updated. K.L.Riley 17.28, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I believe that the Greece section should be split because they have quite a lot of interesting cases including an Irish teacher who is stranded there because her passport was taken and she wont be allowed back until she recovers
-- In general I think we should avoid early splits. After a split the smaller articles tend to not get updated much. What we really need is a concerted effort to bring the artilcles up to reflecting the situation in mid-September 2009, and until that happens I think any split is pre-mature.Johnpacklambert (talk) 14:26, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Case count map needs to be updated
editThere is a severe need to update the case count map. A total of 12 countries are mis-identified, although one is among the many countries inadequately shown. First off, there needs to be an editing of the scale to include the 5000+ cases category. Next the most recent reports put the number of cases in Belgium at 124, and even on the outdated chart in this article the number is put at 87. Both numbers force it into the 50 or more category. Finland with 109, Romania with 55, Norway with 53 and Portugal with 102 also need to be moved into the 50 or more category. The same seems to be the case with the most recent Serbia report putting its number of cases at 54. Malta is at 82, but I am not sure Malta appears on the map at all. Croatia at 14, Montenegro at 13, Macedonia at 9, Latvia at 6 and Lithuania at 5 all need to be moved into the more than 5 category. However, We may want to rethink that categories size and the growth from category to category. The less than five will be reduced to only three noticable countries on the map, opening the question of what a virtually unused category is good for. We may want to tweak the categories at the low end, I am not sure.Johnpacklambert (talk) 18:13, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
With the ongoing updates, we now need both Austria and Russia to be moved into the next higher category.Johnpacklambert (talk) 03:22, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Ukraine....48?

President announced 48, just putting it here first since I'm not sure what you guys qualify for the tables on here.--Львівське (talk) 21:12, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- Let's wait for information on comfirmed A(N1H1) deaths for Ukraine from WHO. As much as I respect the president, he is not the ultimate authority in such situations. I think he was either misinformed or misinterpreted; 48 represents the total number of deaths for ALL flue cases, not just for A(H1N1). —Preceding unsigned comment added by UkieUlysses (talk • contribs) 19:20, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Not sure this is related but the Ukraine Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych publicized his appeal to Ukrainian politicians. “I’m calling on you to refrain from fueling tensions in the country, creating panic and spreading pseudo medical recommendations in the media”. Not sure he is saying "Don't listen to the President" (he is his doctor). — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 21:57, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- As I understand the fatal cases, f.ex. WHO has are people who had an acute respiratory ilness. And it's correct only to report here cases that are confirmed in lab to have been due to SI. --J. Sketter (talk) 14:31, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
"Top 5 countries"-section is not worthy of wikipedia-standards!
editThe whole "Top 5 countries"-section has no references and the "Ukraine" section states there are 22 cases confirmed of swine flu... in the "Top 5 countries"-section they are already dead... Ukraine again
editDue to some politicos and/or newsnerds not being able to tell the difference between bacterial plague and viral influenza, some Ukraine stuff has landed in the article about pneumonic plague. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 22:01, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out! Seems like a good idea, but I wonder if quoting Mr. Piet Spijkers isn't Wikipedia:UNDUEWEIGHT, he seems to be just (I'm sure he does a world of good) a aid-worker who for all we know only spend 2 days in Ukraine before he made this assessment (I saw that happen before...), I saw some real Ukrainian annalist draw some conclusions who look like his in Kyiv Post (if I remember right...), I look them up rather place those as reference. Although I also think it is still some sort of WP:CHRYSTAL to state that politicians are using the flu to rise there popularity cause if they do so they will not admit that and therefore there is no hard proof... — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 00:00, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
- We can indeed write that a person has been quoted in the press as suggesting, or someone in the press has suggested, that the flu (or "plague") story is being used by politicians. And WP:CRYSTAL only says that Wikipedia editors aren't allowed to make unsubstantiated future predictions. AllGloryToTheHypnotoad (talk) 23:25, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

ukraine.
editi propose that the Ukraine section of 2009 flu pandemic in Europe should be made into its own article,as i feel it is becoming much to large to be in its current position.also,i feel it is in need of cleanup, updating, and attention from an expert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.247.60.254 (talk) 17:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Moved the page to it's own article (also because this page takes ages to load...). I did my best for/with cleanup & updating. Split Articles inquiry request
editI would like to know if these sections really need to be split into separate articles as we already have mass lists on other sections. (I would like to remove the tags myself, but I thought I would get input first) --MWOAP (talk) 22:34, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I see some peoples point on splitting, but I have issues with it because a lot of it is unsourced. I think about a week after my first posting here I will remove the requests, if no one has replied here. --MWOAP (talk) 23:49, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Now removing all split article requests. Please note if you put them back, and add WHY. Thanks. --MWOAP (talk) 21:24, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
In general I think requests for splits should wait until the information on a given locality is substantial enough to justify such a request.John Pack Lambert 00:22, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

{{movereq|2009 flu pandemic in Europe}}
2009–2010 flu pandemic in Europe → 2009 flu pandemic in Europe — There is no rationale or consensus requested to all of the 2009 flu pandemic related articles to be renamed as "2009-2010 flu pandemic in XXXX", but TouLouse moved many of these pandemic-related articles without discussion. Even though moving it in a new name such as 2009-2010 blah blah, the WHO itself does not call the outbreak the 2009-2010 flu pandemic, and that there are many of Wikipedia articles dealing with the same subject that must also be renamed. I believe that renaming single article into another, where that article is like a network that all of its connecting subject must also be renamed. I mean that to name 2009 flu pandemic in Europe to 2009-2010 flu pandemic in Europe means that it is also necessary to rename all 2009 flu pandemic stuff into 2009-2010 flu pandemic, and mass renaming needs consensus because this is not a personal POV naming procedure especially that this is a sensitive issue. So I am requesting to renaming it back to 2009 flu pandemic in Europe, its old name. (Note: I reverted all of TouLouse's page moves regarding the flu pandemic, this time, I can't revert the move on Europe article so I made an RM for this.) Thank you.—JL 09 q?c 15:12, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
