I intend to start reviewing this article very soon. '''tAD''' (talk) 00:44, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Lead
- Many articles on finals use an image of the programme or poster in the infobox. This is not a necessity, but if such an image exists, it could be helpful to use.
- I want to use one pretty bad. Still worried about availability and quality before going for Fair Use Rationale.
- On most finals/seasons articles I have seen, the future instalement (in this case 2015) has been italicised.
- I don't know what that is about but I have seen it too. I think it is because it hasn't been played. The infobox currently links to the year's tournament. I like the idea and am making the change since the final hasn't happened.
- The lead should indicate that PPL Park is the Union's stadium. Try "Seattle Sounders FC won the match, defeating the host Philadelphia Union" or similar.
- Is it common to capitalise "The" Cup? The word "Cup" is rightly capitalised, as it is short for "Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup", but what about "The"?
- The "Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup" is often called "The Cup" by the organizers. I only used the term to make "competition" and "tournament" less frequent, so I don't mind eliminating the term if it looks odd to readers outside of the States.
- Link Major League Soccer, and find a way to indicate that it is the top division.
- Done in the second paragraph.
- "Supporters Shield winning season" -> "Supporters Shield-winning season"
- Done and wikilinked.
- "the three Sounders goals came".... missing the word "from"
- Thanks.
- "forward sounders Kenny Cooper" - Sounders forward Kenny Cooper
- Obviously wrote the lead just before nominating or while drunk
(to continue)
- Thanks for taking a look. You gave me a couple things to think about already! Let me take a look at keep it coming.Cptnono (talk) 07:02, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Road to the final (Philadelphia)
- Link the city of Philadelphia
- Oh forget them... teasing. Done.
- Link John Hackworth and Jim Curtin
- Done (disambigs OK)
- "the 17th of June" - June 17
- Multiple fixes.
- "Harrisburg plays in the USL Pro league-the third division of American soccer-but Philadelphia still played several of its regular starters"
- "Harrisburg was playing in the USL Pro league" - the sentence as it was describes a current event, but it is not certain that Harrisburg will always be a USL Pro team, so this should be written
- There is no promotion/relegation in the US so they will be USL unless there is a complete restructuring of a few leagues in the US version of the pyramid.
- Use " — " when putting clauses like in this sentence. "-" is more for putting words together like "award-winning"
- "Agreed. The dash script is OK but I am working on the preferred way.
- Should it be mentioned that the Islanders are affiliated with the Philadelphia Union?
Are they? Let me look into it and come back.USL affiliate as of '10. Fixed.
- "Philadelphia were almost eliminated when Maurice Edu scored a goal in the 89th minute. Andrew Wenger scored two more goals in extra time to advance the Union with a sore of 3–1." -> "Philadelphia were almost eliminated, before Maurice Edu scored an equalizing goal in the 89th minute. Andrew Wenger scored two more goals in extra time to advance the Union with a score of 3–1."
- Thanks.
- Link the North American Soccer League
- Done (and USL)
- "One a piece" -> "One apiece"
- Done
- "8th of July" -> "July 8"
- Done
- Mention what league the Revolution and Dallas play in
- Good call.
- "keeper" -> "goalkeeper"
- 2 instances fixed
- "five year history" -> "five-year history"
- Done
- Road to the final (Seattle)
- " at the Starfire Sports-a smaller venue" — Use the "—" not the "-"
- Fixed (and grammar)
- "usually use for the Open cup" — Open Cup
- Fixed
- Link Tukwila, Washington
- Fixed
- "24th of June" - "June 24"
- Fixed
- "goalie" -> "goalkeeper"
- Fixed
- Put Chad Barrett's full name for this first mention of him
- Fixed
- Put Obafemi Martins' full name for this first mention of him
- Fixed (removed extra use of Marco also)
- "13 of August" -> August 13
- Fixed
- Pre-match
- "Venue Selection" -> "Venue selection"
- "the final will take place" -> "the final would take place"
- Fixed
- "The match was scheduled for Philidelpia Union's PPL Park 20 minutes southwest of Philadelphia in Chester, Pennsylvania." — this sentence basically repeats the last one, needs removing. Link PPL Park and Chester, Pennsylvania in the preceding sentence instead
- Nice catch. Fixed.
- In "Analysis", should "The Fire" be capitalized mid-sentence? I think it should be "the Fire"
- Agreed.
- Match
- "Attendance at PPL Park was 15,256, the lowest for an Open Cup final in six years." — you need a space after the citation here
- Fixed
- Link "Guatemala" to the Guatemala national football team
- Fixed
- "six yard box" -> "six-yard box"
- Fixed
- Accent the name of González
- Fixed (everyone I know of Latino descent will kick my butt if they see that I missed it)
- "No substitutions were made at the half." -> "No substitutions were made at half time" (I think so, but is this phrase in the article more common in U.S. sport? I assume you say half time, because there's the Super Bowl half time show)
- "At the half" is relatively common vernacular in the states. Fixing if it could cause any confusion.
- Fixed
- Link Sports Illustrated
- Fixed
- A space is needed between fourth official Rivero and his nationality
- Fixed
In conclusion, the article is informative and well sourced. It has been written in a trustworthy neutral way. The only minor issues I have pointed out are typos and integrating links to other articles, and it is near certain that these can be renewed in time for the article to pass. It is yet another fabulous article concerning the Sounders — I have noticed a great number of GA articles on this team compared to others in Major League Soccer '''tAD''' (talk) 13:47, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. You caught a lot of silly stuff on my part and brought up some interesting points that hadn't even occurred to me. I addressed everything except "The Cup" since it is how they market it. I can change it all if you think it is not OK, though. And you should come to Seattle and watch them if you get a chance to visit our coffee and craft beer obsessed city at the corner of the country. As long as you don't cheer for the Timbers I am sure you are a stand up dude :) Cptnono (talk) 06:08, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- And I am still searching for a lead image that meets FUR.Cptnono (talk) 06:13, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- An image is not a necessity, I am passing this article as I am pleased with its improvements. '''tAD''' (talk) 19:05, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
