Indonesia Suspension May 30 2015

edit

At this stage, Indonesia has been Suspended from participating in FIFA tournaments, with the exception of the SEA Games which are currently in progress. It is premature to be speculating on Indonesia being totally Expelled from the competition, or that Matches in Round 2 have already been Cancelled. Matilda Maniac (talk) 05:35, 31 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Better to wait official news from AFC regarding this topic. Cheers! MbahGondrong (talk) 09:53, 31 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Effectively, they are suspended, but it could be overturned before the matches start. So, in theory, they have until 10th June to sort themselves out. Once their first scheduled match is expected to start and they can't field a team, then they're out. There wouldn't be an opportunity to play catchup.
Being suspended is always FIFA's very last resort, so they don't rush into making a decision. In the last 10 years Kuwait have been suspended and overturned in 14 days. Brunei have been suspended and taken 14 months to overturn.......it's all in Indonesia's court. Druryfire (talk) 10:30, 31 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Cameroon were suspended in 2013 - during the qualifiers for WC 2014 - yet they went on to qualify and play in the finals. SO yes, their removal is massively premature (and certainly WP:OR). The table is also now ridiculous (actually, even more ridiculous than it was before). 12:09, 1 June 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.200.145.77 (talk)
Suspension has now turned into disqualification according to the AFC. They confirmed that Indonesia have been excluded from the qualifying competition, and all matches involving them have been cancelled.[1] Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:37, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merging Malaysia v Saudi Arabia (2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying) with this article

edit

Apart from the basic blurbs already in the notes and links to reliable sources, I don't know what other information could be saved here. Let's discuss whether anything else is worth saving. — Jkudlick tcs 06:19, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm inviting @Hariboneagle927: to take part in this discussion since that editor created the original article. If seven days pass from the time I sign this update without response from any party to this discussion, I will consider the merger complete with all information already included, and I will complete the redirect and merger as stipulated in the AfD. NOTE: Seven days from my signature would be 09:05, 29 September 2015 (UTC) — Jkudlick tcs 09:05, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Possible edit war regarding location of PLE-KSA match information in the article

edit

@Opdire657: has reverted numerous editors regarding the placement of the PLE-KSA match information, and this editor has also removed my comments from his/her talk page when advised that the constant reversion was unconstructive. This user then stated that my own reversion on this article was unconstructive and has proceeded to plead the case on my talk page. Let's come to a consensus here and now regarding the location of the PLE-KSA match data. — Jkudlick tcs 14:14, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

My view is that the fixtures should be listed according to the actual date played, not when originally scheduled. I edited to change this because it confused me when I saw the fixture on the page - it took me longer to work out what had happened with this match because it was still showing alongside the 13th October matches. It should be placed at the bottom of the group's fixtures while the date is TBC, and then when a date is confirmed it can be slotted in appropriately. --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 08:34, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cancellation of the match of Myanmar v Kuwait (2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying) due to FIFA's suspension to Kuwait Football Association

edit
I found a erasement of the match of Myanmar v Kuwait (2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying)(original date: 17 November 2015). So I searched on Google and found the incident. According to "Jakarta Casual" site, a blogger took a picture of the official FIFA's lettre to Kuwait Football Association and Myanmar Football Associaion. I think that a copy of FIFA's official lettre to Kuwait Football Association and Myanmar Football Associaion is the evidence of FIFA's suspenstion and expellation of Kuwait Football Association from all the international sporting action worldwide. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaanklaas (talkcontribs) 18:00, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I concur that the match has been cancelled, but the letter also states that should Kuwait's suspension be lifted before 17 November, then talks to reschedule the match could begin. Therefore, without an official statement that Kuwait have been expelled from the tournament, we cannot come to that conclusion as that represents original research. — Jkudlick tcs 18:11, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Four teams clinched Asian Cup 3rd round without clinching top 3 in their group.

edit

Groups B, C, F and G are guaranteed to have a 4th-placed team with at most 7 points (excluding results against the 5th-placed team). Palestine, Iran, Syria and Uzbekistan will have more than that in any scenario where they finish 4th in their groups. I've checked and double-checked and edited accordingly. 109.204.154.139 (talk) 18:56, 12 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

KUW Matches Scheduled 24 and 29 March

edit

Earlier today there was an edit skirmish between Willy2000 and Qed237 regarding the status of the KUW–LAO match match scheduled for 24 March and the KOR–KUW match scheduled 29 March. Being uninvolved, I will agree that while it is unlikely that these matches will be played, we cannot state that they are cancelled or awarded until an official announcement from FIFA; until such an announcement is made, such statements constitute original research. I believe that Qed's reversions of Willy2000's edits were appropriate (though not specifically protected by an exemption to 3RR). — Jkudlick • t • c • s 11:46, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The fact that FIFA has now added stadium and kickoff times to the matchreports clearly indicates the matches has not yet been cancelled, although as said above they will most likely not be played. Until any official announcement the matches should be listed, with date and time. Qed237 (talk) 11:57, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Saida, Sidon

Will please someone harmonize the place of the home-matches for Libanon in round 2? The March 2016 game is in "Saida", whereas the previous games took place in "Sidon". But both names indicate the same town, regarding to the linked Wikipedia-Article. Thanks a lot — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.219.114.156 (talk) 16:37, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kuwait and other teams' chances

edit

Hi. I wonder how the current Kuwait situation may affect other teams' "assured" qualification for either World Cup or Asian Cup. With Kuwait, three scenarios are possible: disqualification with all matches cancelled; restoration of membership with all cancelled matches replayed; restoration of membership with forfeited matches remaining forfeited. The decision that will ultimately be taken may affect the otherwise "assured" standings of teams both in Group G and in other groups. For instance, currently Laos cannot finish 4th, but if the Myanmar 3:0 victory vs Kuwait is cancelled, that may become possible. Or else, if all Kuwait's matches are cancelled, then the minimum number of points of the 2nd-placed team in Group G will be 9 (Lebanon, if they lose both games but remain 2nd), whereas currently it is only 4 (also Lebanon, if they lose both games, but remain 2nd - their two wins vs Laos won't count) - this may affect the conclusions as to whether certain teams from other groups may or may not find themselves among the top four 2nd-place teams. Any comments? Ivan Volodin (talk) 12:07, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

They have played more than half of their matches so the first alternative "disqualification with all matches cancelled" is not possible and will not happen. The second alternative "restoration of membership with all cancelled matches replayed" is not possible either and it has been confirmed that the games are forfeited becuase there is no time to replay the matches. If FIFA lifts the ban they will be allowed to play future matches but already forfeited matches will remain forfeited. The most probable outcome is that the two remaining games will be forfeited, but that can not be confirmed until after the actual matchdates. Of course the decision of Kuwait can affect other groups but we have to go with current decisions in out table and not predict future, and that is that they have one forfeited game and two upcoming games that currently are TBD. When FIFA makes a new decision, we will have to take it from there. Qed237 (talk) 12:27, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the comment. Any source regarding the more than half matches played? Does it mean that they cannot be just disqualified like Indonesia was? So what happens if they are not restored? They will then finish the group with 10 points, but will they be considered as having finished 2nd/3rd, or 5th in the group? Will Lebanon, if they lose both games, be considered as having finished 2nd or 3rd? Laos, 4th or 5th? Also, if I were on those FIFA or AFC boards, I would argue that it is not fair to award 3 points to Myanmar without awarding the same to Lebanon, so unless there is a clear rule, I wouldn't exclude that their discussions may result in something else than just having three matches forfeited. On "predicting the future" - if currently there is a team with a remark "eliminated" or "qualified", and later it turns out that because of some Kuwait-related decision that team was not eliminated (or not qualified, respectively), it will mean that we have been indeed predicting the future without good reason. (I am not calling for the removal of all "Q", "Y" and other remarks, but a footnote is probably needed in order to signal that those remarks are based on a certain assumption regarding Kuwait that may ultimately prove wrong). Ivan Volodin (talk) 12:46, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
For example, Turkmenistan are currently marked "Q" meaning that they have assured entering Asian Cup qualifying 3rd round. This must be on the basis that, if they finish 4th, they will still have 7 points vs the best three teams, whereas only groups B, D, F and H can produce a 4th-placed team with 7 points, meaning that Turkmenistan will in any case be among the 4 best 4th-placed teams. However, if Kuwait forfeit both matches but are restored to the tournament, they may also finish 4th with 7 points, thus making the current "Q" on Turkmenistan wrong. Ivan Volodin (talk) 13:17, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Ivan Volodin:. Status "Q" for Turkmenistan is right. In your text was mistake about group F. GAV80 (talk) 13:57, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, thanks for noting. Ivan Volodin (talk) 16:27, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
We can not base our information on the fact that FIFA might change results. It is like when they change because someone fielded an ineligble player, we can not know that. We dont write for every single match that the results might be changed. Qed237 (talk) 14:18, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK fair enough. If this is a question that had been noted and thought through, then it's fine. Ivan Volodin (talk) 16:24, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Provide a summary of the qualification round

edit

I would like to propose a summary section in the main article of 2018 FIFA WC AFC Qual 2nd rnd such as: A list of teams qualified to the 3rd round and Asian Cup, a list of teams qualified to Asian Cup qualifying 3rd round and a list of teams qualified to Asian Cup qualifying playoff round. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.38.136.2 (talk) 03:59, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

That section would not be necessary, as this information is visible within the tables. — Jkudlick • t • c • s 15:30, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
If some sort of summary should be added, it should be something like 2015–16 UEFA Champions League group stage#Teams or UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying#Summary. Qed237 (talk) 15:53, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
