Serena Williams seeding

I checked the source for the draw and there was no mention of Williams being PR. I thought that she was seeded to "balance the draw". Was there a consensus reached elsewhere to have her PR? Mobile mundo (talk) 15:03, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Per what I have read, she absolutely was given a protected ranking just to get into Wimbledon. Whether it's here, here, or here. She was given a raised "seeding" ranking of 25 to balance the draw. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:11, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

She didn't used a PR. Some tenisplayers like Caroline Wozniacki or other players asked the tournament to make an expcpetion for her because she is the best payer of the 21^st century.--RosaBasch35 (talk) 20:36, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

This is not true. She is ranked 181 in the world and only the top 128 get into Wimbledon. With a PR she got into Wimbledon... the only question being if Wimbledon would put her in the top 32 as a seeded player. They did this to be fair to ALL the players in the draw (except of course Cibulkova, who got screwed). Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:01, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Here is the official entry list for Wimbledon. It labels Serena as having used a "SR" (=Special Ranking). The ATP's Protected Ranking (=PR) rules stipulate that someone using a PR cannot be seeded if not ranked high enough to get one a seeding anyway. I'm not aware of the WTA's rules on this, but as far as I can see, they don't even use the term Protected Ranking at all. I think that for clarity we should use the same term as the WTA. It's not true either that the top 128 get into Wimbledon. The top 108 gets direct entries, to which 12 Qualifiers and 8 Wild Cards are added.Tvx1 08:59, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

I saw the PR in Fyunck(click) first 2 but Forbes would not upload for me (probably cookie settings). In the BBC article there is no mention of PR but balancing the draw was mentioned with the 32 seeds at the bottom of the page. (Mobile mundo (talk) 21:49, 10 July 2018 (UTC))

Not sure why the forbes site had issues. The text in it says:

"So why did Williams, a seven-time winner, get a seeding for next week's Wimbledon Championships — meaning she will avoid any of the top seeds in the first two rounds — while Murray, a two-time champion, didn't? After all, both had entered the Wimbledon singles draw on a protected ranking after a long break away from their respective tours. Williams was off for 13 months to have a child and, having returned in March without a ranking, is now No. 183. Murray, who missed 11 months with a hip injury that required surgery, is now ranked No. 156."

I hope that helps. As for the Wimbledon differences in the ATP and WTA, it's a big difference. The ATP seeds are made up of the top 32 players in the rankings for the men's ATP World Tour as of the week before Wimbledon, but rearranged on a surface-based formula that reflects a players' grass-court achievements in the past two years. Murray is No. 156 so no seeding. The WTA is different in its rules. Wimbledon follows the WTA Tour rankings list as of the week before the event, except when a change to the seedings is deemed necessary to produce a balanced draw. So Murray and Williams got in by PR but Williams was seeded per the WTA exception. Fyunck(click) (talk) 23:32, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

As I said before, here is the official Wimbledon entry list. Serena used a "Special Ranking". "Protected Ranking" appears to be an ATP-specific term. Of course ATP and WTA have there own separate rules.Tvx1 13:39, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Links in infobox

Hi all, does anybody know how to add links to the lower part of the infobox? How can one add the links for the wheelchair singles draws, and the quad doubles draw, which are currently missing? Thanks, Annafromathens (talk) 08:21, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

It's not easy because the coding has to be done by an expert. I will ask, but not for quad. The Quad doubles was an exhibition match and nothing more per Wimbledon. Perhaps in the future that will change. Fyunck(click) (talk) 09:10, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
