What is going on?
editSo we note the times are in a certain zone (for some reason we use ET) which is -5, but if the time ISN'T in that zone, we give the time with no indication of the zone it's actually in, but note the -5 time as well (so you need to work out what that means the local time zone is) with a -5 indication. This is just bizarre. This isn't a CONCACAF website reporting service, it's Wikipedia, so times should be simple (and understandable), not some MENSA test. And who cares if CONCACAF gives the times in one zone (good for them, they can do what they want). What next, "Oh CONMEBOL puts the stadium names in Spanish, so we are going to write everything in Spanish too?" 110.33.28.251 (talk) 13:29, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- This is a valid point. Usually match times are listed in local times. I will work on correcting these. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 02:46, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Error
editThere is an error which can't be fixed through a simple edit: The match table has Canada hosting the US on Sept. 5, and the US hosting Canada on Sept. 5. The latter is correct; Canada hosts the US on January 30,2022
- Fixed — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 02:44, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Point Standings
editThe current point standings tiebreaker rule on away goals only applies matches between the teams tied in standings. Not the total away goals scored in the league. Therefore the tiebreaker rule #8 Fair Points should be used between 2 teams - Canada and United States since Panama is already eliminated by TB rule # 3 Overall Goals Scored. I noticed the updated correction in away goals but is still incorrect. It would only be used if it was home and away league format. Please clarify.
- TB #7 comes in to play because the third round is played as a home-and-away league format, i.e. each team plays each other team once at home and once away. USA drew Canada 1–1, but because Canada was the away team, they hold tiebreaker #7. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 22:40, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
The X should be removed from Canada
editThey are not "Assured of at least inter-confederation play-offs". Costa Rica, on 16 points, could win all three matches with large margins of victory and have a higher tie break than Canada, albeit, that is highly unlikely. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:23, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- For Canada to finish fifth, both Costa Rica and Panama would have to win their three remaining matches, in which case the USA will lose twice and finish below Canada. Xmth (talk) 07:30, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose: As both Canada and USA have to face Panama and Costa Rica in the final 3 matches, there is no way for all 4 teams to finish ahead of Canada at once. Jalen Folf (talk) 07:42, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:14, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Would like to add a request on top of this. Can we add a small annotation (I don't know how to format it) in the article to explain this to the casual reader (ie people who don't edit)? Because from the naked eye, a lot people are going to interpret it as a mistake since there is no explanation, except in comments (which only editors can see).Strangewrite385 (talk) 02:08, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Walter Görlitz Maybe it should say Q instead of X? That is the typical annotation elsewhere. Snyish (talk) 12:33, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Snyish: Canada hasn't yet qualified for the World Cup; it is still possible for them to lose their remaining matches and go to the inter-confederation playoff. We don't use the Q until they have officially qualified. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 19:37, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Walter Görlitz so what's the X for? Snyish (talk) 19:39, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Snyish: Firstly, you should check who replied to you so you ping the correct user. Second, the X is defined in the notes under the table:
(X) Assured of at least inter-confederation play-offs, can still qualify directly

1949" instead of just "HON", I presume this is an old version of the Honduran flag, possibly from 1949. It uses a noticeably lighter shade of blue than the current flag (sky blue rather than the correct royal or cobalt blue). Please change this so that the correct flag of Honduras (visible throughout the rest of the article) is used in the Standings section. Thank you. 108.31.16.4 (talk) 00:12, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- Not done: The flag of Honduras did not change until just before Matchday 9 on 27 January 2022. The old flag was used during the draw and was used for all matches prior to the change. It is not necessary to change what has already happened. Jalen Folf (talk) 02:55, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- The Flag of Honduras underwent a change 27 January 2022. The former cerulean blue was changed to a turquois at that time. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:53, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
