Dear Lineagegeek I have reviewed Ravenstein, pages 218-219, and I do not believe the 405 Fighter Wing should be listed with the 327 AD nor being stationed in Taiwan. If there's any indication from anything you've got that the 405th was actually in Taiwan and these listings here and at 405 FW are correct, please so indicate. Why was the 405th Wing a FW, not becoming a Tactical Fighter Wing? Buckshot06 (talk) 02:22, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- This page has been edited a lot this year. Most of the information is incorrect, and has been inserted with material that was referenced to give the appearance that there are references for the information. An example is the claim that the 405th "Air Expeditionary Wing" was assigned in the 1960s, when that form of designation did not exist at the time. The reason the 405th was the 405th Fighter Wing was that it had two fighter squadrons assigned: One was a fighter-Interceptor squadron and the other was a tactical fighter squadron. Probably should have been renamed a composite wing when the 8th and 13th Bombardment Squadrons transferred from the 3d Wing, but USAF wasn't spending money on new signs and stationery for changes like that during the Vietnam War era. (note that it was into the 1970s before SAC renamed its Strategic Aerospace Wings, even though they lost their miss8le units in 1965-1966). I have downgraded the assessment because of the impact the changes have had on B2. --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:00, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Not as difficult as thought. A lot of the 2020 edits were wrong, but meaningless once erroneous entries from 2016 were eliminated. Fortunatey, only the 83rd Fighter Squadron appears to have had the equivalent errors introduced into their articles. More in a separate entry. --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:18, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
I've just noticed that you removed my addition of the 41st Fighter-Interceptor Wing, which I copied straight from the archived 327 AD factsheet, and assumed was correct. Can you tell me why? Also, yes, aware of various "Air Task Force 13" etc, especially from our pioneering Black airman's command of one iteration. Buckshot06 (talk) 00:43, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Task forces
editPrimarily in the air defense or air superiority role, a number of provisional task forces operated from the Republic of China during the period the 327th Division was the administrative headquarters for USAF units stationed there. However, these units were typically attached to the task forces, not to the division. In addition, some of these deployments did not include deployment of the squadrons themselves, although most of their resources may have been deployed. Staffing of some of these task forces probably came from the 327th in some cases. While a discussion of the task forces and their relation to the 327th may be appropriate to the article, unsupported claims that deployed units were assigned to the 327th will be strongly questioned (even if it takes four years to notice it). --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:18, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
