5.5m, not 5.5mR

edit

The 'R' refers to that the class is registered at Lloyd's. Neither 5.5 or 5 metre classes are registered there, so they are properly called as 5m and 5.5m respectively. Whilst, 6 metre class is and thus called 6mR. --Mikoyan21 23:26, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

== There is an error in the formula. Second term should be ( L + S^(1/2))/4 See http://www.5.5class.org/technique/55_rating_rules_07.pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.203.96.49 (talk) 10:41, 8 June 2008 (UTC) The square root of something is the same as something to the power of 1/2! 5.5 logo and sail emblem

edit

I believe the 5.5 logo shown here is not the official logo. Different from the other metre classes the 5.5 logo is not a derivative of the number and the sail emblem does not feature the underscore shown here. The actual logo can be seen (for example) on the ISAF website http://www.sailing.org/images/news/5_5_Logo_360.jpg 88.114.90.193 (talk) 19:26, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for not reacting earlier. The Sail Emblem showed in the article is correct. The logo showed on the ISAF website is that of the class organization._/)_/)_/) ˷˷˷˷˷˷˷˷ _/) NED33talk 19:01, 16 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Table of results is duplicated in another page

edit

The Wall of Fame section with the table of results of the Scandinavian Gold Cup race winners is duplicated in Scandinavian Gold Cup. Probably this table should be moved there, similar to the World Championships section. Either that or merge the Scandinavian Gold Cup page. SuW (talk) 17:34, 16 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Olympic Games table

edit

The Olympic Games table appears to be incorrect as it does not include Australia's bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics. Or am I missing something? --ErnstR (talk) 00:34, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

It looks wrong to me I would change it --Yachty4000 (talk) 07:03, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 3 May 2023

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus that the proposed title is unambiguous, and thus that the disambiguation in the current title is unnecessary. It was also noted that the proposed title is more WP:CONSISTENT with other similarly titled articles in Category:Olympic sailing classes. 5.5 Metre (keelboat)5.5 Metre – no other articles 5.5 Metre, 5.5 metre, 5.5 Metres, 5.5 metres, 5.5 Meter, 5.5 meter, 5.5 Meters or 5.5 meters Kaffet i halsen (talk) 11:02, 2 May 2023 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). – MaterialWorks 16:54, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

5.5 metre class perhaps. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:10, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Unambiguous. The metre/meter is a unit of measurement, yes, but no one would expect Wikipedia to have an article about the concept of 5.5 meters, 5.5 kilograms or 5.5 of any other unit. Agree with 162's points as well. Lennart97 (talk) 17:17, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, obviously. "5.5 Metre" referring to a unit of length isn't a plausible search term, otherwise we'd have redirects for every possible length under the sun. As noted, it has already redirected here for the past 18 years, so the consensus is already for this, it's just a case of tidying up an unnecessary disambiguator. See also, 22 Yards, 50 metres, 100 Feet, 40 Minutes etc. for other unit-based articles that don't need further disambiguation.  — Amakuru (talk) 17:39, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Simple reversal of a redirect. Station1 (talk) 20:00, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support while it seems generic it doesn't seem like we cover any other uses and WP:DIFFCAPS may apply if we did cover the generic meaning. Even Commons doesn't disambiguate. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:16, 5 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
