Needs some more information, but good job

edit

It defintely has a basis, but needs more information overall.

Parts of this are taken verbatim from here and here. Unless someone can show these are in the public domain, this article will be in danger of being deleted at worse, or reverted at best.--Nobunaga24 00:40, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problem being fixed

edit

I have specific permission from the Public Affairs of the 4/25 to grab the history and they personally gave the history of the 501st to me. So, I appreciate you thinking that it may be plagerism, but the unit as well as supporting organization would've stopped me from making this article live. Look at all the people I thanked below in the article. Every single one of them has given me permission.--docmccoy1 16:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm putting this back to Start class because it is still not cited, and the tone of the article is still too unencyclopedic. When you copy something word for word, at the very least you should footnote it at that point, not just provide external links at the end of the article, none of which actually point to the source material. If it was copied from a .mil website, then it would automatically be public domain, though you would still have to cite it. The links I provided above, which are the sources for the article, are not public domain, unless there is a disclaimer on their website that I missed. If they give you permission, that's wonderful except for one thing: How do we know that? Your work on this is appreciated (honestly), but you need to understand how stuff works here. I would much prefer that it gets cited and rewritten so as not to be a copyright vio, because if someone comes along and notices that, they just have to slap the copyright violation template on here and it could possibly be deleted before you even have time to update this page. If you still don't agree, you can take it to the WPMILHIST project, but I'm fairly certain that they will agree with me.--Nobunaga24 23:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problems not fixed

edit

The majority of the text is still the copy-pasted material mentioned above. While it's in good faith, the tone and content is not that of an encyclopedia. It's far too dramatic / emotive / narrative for an encyclopedia article, and goes into substantial detail about events that are already covered elsewhere - for instance, Market Garden is covered in great depth, and the narrative text in this article is best used as a reference for that article. I was tempted to remove the copied sections of this article but that would leave so little of the article behind that I didn't have the nerve to be that bold... it's a job for someone with the time to rewrite / reduce, not simply blank. 152.91.9.219 (talk) 04:45, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lineage

edit

The lineage should make reference to the 501st Parachute Battalion that existed in (at least) 1940-1. You can see film of their jumps including mass jumps in the movie Parachute Battalion released in 1941.[1] Other U.S. Army mass jumps can be seen in the movie West Point of the Air (1935). These jumps pre-date the notable "Test Platoon" mentioned in this article. Rklawton (talk) 04:42, 11 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
