Purpose of the Museum Wikipedia Page

edit

I think it's important for people to remember the purpose of the museum Wikipedia page ought to be about the museum itself, not an inventory of everything there. I know we're all enthusiastic, but I'm of the opinion whomever put that gawdy table in there with all the locomotives really trashed the page. People can go to the museum website to see the inventory of artifacts (locomotives), we don't need to duplicate the effort here. Notable Exhibits

edit

Would it be worth reorganizing the notable exhibits section a bit and adding a couple locomotives? I was thinking that the notable exhibits section could stay sort of how it is, but all the notable diesels could be consolidated into a diesels subsection. It would be understood that it was a notable diesels subsection. Similarly, Mojave Northern #2 and UP 2564 could be added to the article, and all five of the notable steam locomotives could be consolidated into a steam locomotive subsection. Within that subsection, Emma Nevada and Chloe would be under Grizzly Flats, but not a subsection of a subsection.

I’m a member and volunteer on the steam crew at the museum. I also am an admin on the museum’s official steam shops Facebook page. I think this would help better organize the notable exhibits section a bit, and bring awareness to the other two more forgotten (but quite notable) steam locomotives at the museum. This could greatly benefit the museum as well, as both the MN2 and UP 2564 are in need of cosmetic restorations, which don’t pay for themselves.

Am I making sense? What does everyone think? Please let me know.

I think you're duplicating the efforts already present on the museum website. It breaks up the flow of the museum Wikipedia page pretty badly to have that big table smashed in there. It's more or less supposed to be a summary page about the museum itself, not an inventory of everything there. Motoxkid (talk) 02:05, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
