President of the PA?
editI don't know how correct it is to label Aziz Duwaik as President of the Palestinian National Authority... I performed a quick search in Arabic (not by any means a comprehensive one), and didn't really find much, except for an article from last year, from a Hamas website, in which Mohammad Faraj Alghoul (Hamas' justice minister) says that Abbas' term ends on January 9, 2009, and that Palestinian law stipulates that the speaker of the legislative council automatically becomes president. Besides that, I haven't really heard anybody from Hamas stress that Duwaik is the president (while it is very clear that they do not consider Abbas president). This, most likely, is due to the fact that Duwaik is living in the West Bank, and has to play by Abbas' rules for fear of persecution. So maybe something like he is de jure (disputed) president. I don't have any strong opinions either way, but just feel the current infobox, and references to Duwaik in other infoboxes is a bit misleading. --Fjmustak (talk) 03:00, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. He shouldn't be labeled as president for the obvious reasons. Instead we could have a footnote clarifying the issue and Hamas' take on it as well as Duwaik's take on it. --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:16, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
There is a power dispute in Palestine. Hamas' government which controlls the Gaza Strip recognises Haniyeh as PM and Duwaik as President. Fatah's government which controlls some areas in the West Bank recognises Fayad as PM and Abbas as President. Per Wikipedia neutrality policies we should present both views, particulary since Duwaik is more or less the de-facto President since the Gaza Strip is the only part of Palestine under Palestinian controll, while the West Bank remains disputed territory, majority of which controlled by Israeli military forces.Kermanshahi (talk) 15:48, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Has Duwaik himself taken any public position one way or another on whether he's the acting president? Would certainly be important info for the article. --Jfruh (talk) 02:01, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Pronunciation
editIdeally, File:En-us-Abdel Aziz Duaik from Palestinian pronunciation (Voice of America).ogg should be replaced by pronunciation record of Arabic speaker. This English pronunciation doesn't sounds native. Eran (talk) 21:09, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Aziz Duwaik → Aziz Dweik – The official spelling of his name according to the majority of news media sources. 156.196.150.85 (talk) 08:45, 1 November 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. –Ammarpad (talk) 17:46, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

- Support. Of the 8 sources which mention him, 6 (including the BBC, The Guardian and Al Jazeera English) say Dweik, 1 Duwaik, and 1 Duaik. The less common versions of his name should be redirects. Narky Blert (talk) 17:32, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
