Muslim-Christian dates

edit

Can someone please correlate the Muslim and Christian dates? Thanks. -- Jmabel 01:01, Oct 8, 2004 (UTC)

Issues

edit

"...managed to form an army of Gauls and Germans approximately 110,000 strong" — How do we know this? Poitier is far from Germany. Not mentioning the muslims had already control of southern France up to the Loire river. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.188.41.179 (talkcontribs).

Merging the Articles, the Size of the Frankish Army, and the date of the Battle

edit

The best historical estimates are that Charles had a Frankish army (buttressed by some of the other Germanic tribes) of 15-75,000 men. As to merging the articles, obviously it should be done, since they are both about the same man. The date of the battle in English by the standard calender is Oct. 19, 732 a.d.old windy bear 00:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Was he Defeated at Tours?

edit

Is it fair to say that he personally was defeated? The article asserts his death lead to the subsequent failure of his forces, but lack of succession planning hardly equates to a personal defeat in battle. LeadSongDog 16:23, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Amazing detail, given the sparse original sources

edit

Essentially what you have here is supposition of vari[iou]s historians re-told and cited as if it were fact. A Typical Wikipedia fake history article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.9.174.196 (talk) 20:17, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Echoed, this date, with no apparent change, and also noting perspective decidedly Western, as if Islamic editors have abandoned this article. Le Prof 71.201.62.200 (talk) 21:21, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Troops from Yemen and Levant

edit

The statement claiming that troops from Yemen and Levant came to support al-Gafiqi's force is hardly tenable. Nor Roger Collins neither A. Lewis mention anything the like, it seems that it was a raid. However I may be wrong, enlighten me. Iñaki LL (talk) 15:07, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The very first sentence

edit

"He successfully led into battle against the forces of Charles Martel in the Battle of Tours on October 10, 732 AD."

Led what successfully? And even ignoring the obviously missing word, the Franks won the battle and Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd Allah al-Ghafiqi died on the battlefield, there was nothing successful about his experience at the Battle of Tours. This article is a mess right from the very first sentence. 79.45.180.236 (talk) 13:51, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
