Jeez, how'd I do that? Thanks! --valereee (talk) 17:05, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

valereee, thanks for your invitation. I'd be delighted to help. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:44, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

So, a few things:
  1. "next to a Chisanyama" since that's red linked, could you explain what it means?
  2. I looked at the source, it appears that it's a combined award from Travel + Leisure and Food and Drink?
  3. I think the hook is reasonable, although "one of only 3" should be "one of only three. Also may need to reflect my previous point in the two organisations making the award.
So we're close... The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 07:43, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  1. I'm assuming "chisanyama" must be shisa nyama, but that article is pretty sparse, wasn't sure.
Why capitalise it? The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 08:16, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
IIRC it was capped in the source and I at the time assumed it was the name of a restaurant chain; fixed now and linked to shisa nyama. --valereee (talk) 13:12, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  2. Yes, F&W did the Americas/Africa/Middle East and T+L did the rest. They linked to each others' articles, it was a combined effort.
So the award was really from both, not just Food and Drink, that's my point. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 08:16, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've added T+L into the article because it was mentioned in the F&W article that the project was a combined effort, so that provides that source. Do you think we need to somehow fit that into the hook too? --valereee (talk) 13:12, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm just nervous that since it seems the overall awards were given by the two works, not just one of them, so perhaps we do... maybe need to drop one of the other aspects of the hook to stop it becoming too bloated... The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 20:23, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  3. Numbers are hard :D I was thinking there was a MOS to use all numerals or all words in a single sentence? Maybe I'm making that up. --valereee (talk) 23:32, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, for comparable items, "cats and dogs" is the example at MOS:NUM. But these aren't comparable items. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 08:16, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ah, gotcha. Fixed --valereee (talk) 13:12, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • These all just make it under 200:

ALT0a ... that Abigail Mbalo-Mokoena's 4Roomed, a restaurant 30 miles (48 km) outside Cape Town in Khayelitsha township, was named to Food & Wine/Travel + Leisure's 2019 list of the best in the world?

ALT0b ... that Abigail Mbalo-Mokoena's 4Roomed, a restaurant 30 kilometres (19 mi) outside Cape Town in Khayelitsha township, was one of only three in Africa named to a 2019 list of the best in the world?

ALT0c ... that Abigail Mbalo-Mokoena's 4Roomed, 30 miles (48 km) outside Cape Town, was one of only three in Africa named to Food & Wine/Travel + Leisure's 2019 list of the best restaurants in the world? --valereee (talk) 12:53, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to just "pop in" but on holiday so not much time at the moment, I'm not convinced we need the accuracy in location, just "in Khayelitsha township near Cape Town"? The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 20:19, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
No great hurry. I liked the 30 miles outside Cape Town because it points out how remote the restaurant is, very unusual for a vaunted restaurant to be outside the urban centers. But maybe the fact it's a township does that already? Do most readers know the townships are almost by definition not areas you'd expect to find great restaurants? --valereee (talk) 20:54, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh I see, that was a little lost on me, but then I've visited South Africa a few times so I'm fully aware of the townships. Your point is valid, and I guess if we're keeping it under the 200-character limit in any case, no major stress. So I'm going to pass ALT0b. Thanks for the review! --valereee (talk) 20:24, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome, any time. Don't hesitate to let me know if there are any other hooks you'd like me to review, or indeed recommend my highly cost-effective service to your friends and family! The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 20:28, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm apparently an idiot; 30km not mi. --valereee (talk) 16:38, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

unsourced additions

edit

Hey, Sankoela, welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for the photos you uploaded, I am going through them now.

Because you're Ms. Mbalo-Mokoena's husband, Wikipedia considers you to have a conflict of interest and prefers that you do not edit this article directly. The best thing to do is to come here to the talk page and start a discussion (click the little + sign up top) and make what we call an edit request. Another editor will come and help you.

I removed some of the information you've added because it was unsourced. All information on Wikipedia must have a citation to a reliable source. This is true even when it's information about something you know to be true; someone else needs to be saying it in a reliable source such as a newspaper. When you have something you'd like to have added, come here and provide us with the information and the source where it's been published, and another editor will add it into the article if they think it's an appropriate addition. --valereee (talk) 15:54, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Name change and removal of content

edit

About two weeks ago, User:Abigail Mbalo (who say they are the subject of this article) have requested it to be moved, and have asked for all references to Mbalo's husband to be removed following an alleged divorce. Some leeway was given, but despite asking at User talk:Abigail Mbalo for a reliable source, or a proof of identity, the changes remain unverified. I understand why the subject may want to remove certain content, but a divorce doesn't change the past, and more importantly, we have to rely on verifiable information. I am notifying DandelionAndBurdock who were involved in the previous discussion. For the time being, I have reverted both the move, and the changes made. Renerpho (talk) 22:43, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that some sources do refer to the subject as Abigail Mbalo so maybe we should have and AKA in the lede. Also the husband is not himself notable by wikipedia standards so he doesn't need to be named. Apart from that, no objections. -- D'n'B-t -- 05:31, 27 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
