Context

Can't this article begin by setting some context, saying "In the cartoon 'The Simpsons', Abraham is Homer's father..." etc.? The article should not assume the reader is familiar with that cartoon. -- Mike Hardy

Go ahead and modify it.  :-) -- Zoe

With regards to Abraham's parenthood, what about the British woman in the Regina Monologues?

Should Grandpa Simpson redirect here?

This article names him Abraham Jasper Simpson. Source, please? --AidPc 11:19, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

"English speaking European country, most likely Ireland, Wales, or Scotland"? In one episode it shows Abe talking to his father, and he has a Scottish accent.

I am from the UK, and that accent is Northern English, not Scottish. Moreover, Simpson is an English name.XmarkX 11:05, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
It may be of English origin, but that doesn't mean anything. My last name (no, Biff Loman isn't my real name!) is of Scottish origin, but there are people in Scotland, England, and Ireland with that same name. Along the Scotland-England border, it was probably not uncommon. Biff Loman 19:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Aye.His fathers accent certainly is Northern English, whatever the origin of his surname.Could be the actor intended to do a Scottish accent but ended up sounding Northern English. The accents can be similar close to the border.

AidPc is right, where did they ever say his middle name was Jasper? Every official source i've seen just lists his middle initial as "J" and doesn't say what it stands for. TJ Spyke 01:01, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Hitler

Grandpa tells dozens of stories about trying to assassinate Hitler...are these relevant? Wikifried (talk) 00:47, 29 November 2007 (UTC) Probably not, because they are just examples of his tendency to make up stories, so there is no reason to say it specifically. Rhino131 (talk) 01:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Grandpa's Age

83 seems too low. In World War 2 flashbacks, he appears to be in his 30s. In flashbacks to Homer's childhood, Abe is definitely middle aged. Biff Loman 19:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

What episode is the source on the age? --John Sadloske 23:52, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

In Smart and Smarter, his age is stated as being somewhere in the 80's, although this could make him anywhere from 80 to 89Wikiwarlock 04:23, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

he is portrayed in WWI, about 1918, as being roughly a year old, so going by that, his age would be roughly 89, as of 2007.Onopearls 15:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't forget to take into account that none of the Simpson’s have aged in almost 2 decades. I think age should be calculated with this in mind and projections should be given based on the 1989 air date. FLJuJitsu 00:35, 09 Sept 2007 (UTC)
But in the episode Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish", he is fighting as Sergeant Abe Simpson, while Mr. Burns is serving him. This could mean that Grampa is actually older than Mr. Burns. In any case, we shouldn't put any age on the article, seeing as how Mr Burns' age ranged anywhere from 81 to 104, so there cannot be any definite age to include.--EclipseSSD (talk) 16:23, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Personal homepage

What about adding the name of Grampa's homepage? It says Welcome to my homepage. Why don't you visit more often?. This si in episode 15x05 --Jangli 11:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

If you actually visit his "homepage" though, you will see someone already owns the site and it isn't his or owned by FOX etc. Manors21 20:23, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Grampa's Album

On the episode "Homer And Apu", homer meantions that grampa released an album at some point in his life. I dont know where this should be meantioned, so i have put it here for now DannyB!! 13:25, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Missouri

I assumed that Grampa's reason for not recogizing "Missour-ah" was a subtle reference to Northern opposition to the Missouri Compromise during the 1820s. What does anyone else think?

the swede grudge

can anybody explain this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anton the Swede (talkcontribs) 13:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC).

Abe Simpson was born in Greece

This is actualy referencd many times during the show's course. Homer states in one of the episodes, how we Greeks don't like doing whatever it was in that situation. If you'd like, I can look it up to prove it. Grampa said himself that he was Greek. So, the assertion that he was born in an English speaking country is false.

His father didn't sound very Greek in the episode where it was explained how the Simpsons came to the USA.Neither did Grandpa Simpson come to think of it.--90.199.44.140 21:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Lack of references

There a large number of quotes, but no explanation of what episode the quotes are from. This seems like a major flaw. Quinten 05:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

main episodes

Shouldn't be add a list of episodes were he's the main character? --201.230.105.183 19:03, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Relatives

Hey, I'm semi-back! Anyway, since there is some issues with who we should list as relatives, I'll jump start the discussion. I think we only need to list main recurring characters in the relatives section, and close relatives, like we don't need to list Abe's daughter in laws, or Ling as the kids' cousin, his parents aren't recurring at all, I don't even remember seeing them, so I don't think they should be listed Ctjf83Talk 16:52, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

As far as I can remember, they appeared in one episode (Much Apu About Nothing) in a very brief flashback (which was likely one of Grampa's insane stories). Their names came from a non-canon source. Mentioning them in the article is fine, but the infoboxes are meant for characters that were more than a one-off joke. If we mention such minor characters, then the infoboxes would be chock full of such characters as Mother Shabooboo, Uncle Tyrone and the guy who plays a millionaire at parties. -- Scorpion0422 17:11, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
LOL, ya, I don't have a problem listing some in the article, my above guidelines were for the info boxes. Ctjf83Talk 17:21, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I always assumed that at least main direct relatives, such as parents, spouse and offspring, were listed in these sections (well at least they are for other characters, even for characters for other things not related to The Simpsons). Abe's father has appeared in at least two episodes, "Bart Gets Hit By A Car" and "Much Apu About Nothing". But it seems that almost every edit I've made on these articles recently is supposedly "wrong" despite a lot of related articles contradicting the reasons given for the reverts. Bah, sort out your own mess then. --.:Alex:. 17:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I actually don't remember seeing his parents at all, it must be for a brief few seconds. I don't think a total of 10 seconds of someone appearing over the course of 420 episodes is enough to mention them in the infobox, even if they are parents of Abe. Also, just because one or two people think your edits are wrong, doesn't mean the are! Ctjf83Talk 17:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I know... it's just tiring and frustrating when it's relentless is all. Besides, I think we need a discussion on standardising the infoboxes anyway. Almost all of them have something different going on with them with many different aspects, we really should standardise them otherwise it becomes really, really confusing. With Abe's parents, well they are about on par with, say, Iggy Wiggum or Sheldon Skinner and yet they are listed hence why I thought I should add them there. --.:Alex:. 17:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Excellent point!!! Why do we even have those, from what I remember, one time characters just from "Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish"". You are absolutely right though, if we list them, we should list Abe's parents. But the question is should we list them. I don't think we should if they have only appeared in a few out of 420 episodes. We can discuss it here, or link this to a discussion off the main Simpsons page to reach a decision amongst the project. Ctjf83Talk 17:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I'd prefer continuing the discussion at WT:DOH, as it seems a more suitible venue for discussion about the infobox in general. --.:Alex:. 18:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Article Title?

The usual wiki policy is that the article is titled by the best known name of the subject, for example Sarah Michelle Gellar. I propose the simple name change to Grampa Simpson, as casual readers not very familiar with the show wouldn't be looking Abraham, they'd be looking for Grampa. Also, is "Grampa" the official spelling? I always thought that it was just spelled "Grandpa", but this article says otherwise. What do you think? Mhavril39 (talk) 10:39, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
