editWhere did the author of this article get the information that Abushiri was of "Arab-Ethiopian parentage"?
"Jahazi" was not a village near Bagamoyo; it was the name of one of Abushiri's closest confederates.
The article treats African "tribes" as political units that formed alliances with or against Abushiri. This is a serious misrepresentation of nineteenth century African history. For a more accurate account of the politics of Abushiri's war of resistance, consult John Iliffe, A Modern History of Tanganyika (Cambridge, 1979), or Jonathon Glassman, Feasts and Riot.
