Adam is a Greek name
edit"Adam" is not hebrew, it is Greek, see http://www.preearth.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1173 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.155.15.155 (talk) 09:50, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Dont know how wikipedia works, but I think this important enough to point out. The origin of the give name "Adam" is not hebrew, it is sumerian. This is of outmost importance and needs to be corrected --109.58.186.240 (talk) 01:22, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Where have you read that? Never heard of that conjecture before. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 20:10, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know what the best research is, but it is fairly obviously folk etymology (the Bible has many such backward name etymologies). The Hebrew article on Adam cites an academical paper saying so. I can't access this article, but I referred to it as a basis; I changed the article here to note that the "adama" etymology is in the Bible, and is probably folk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ירדן ניר-בוכבינדר (talk • contribs) 17:04, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Symbolism
editIt seems that many fictional characters who are the only individual of their species are named Adam or Eve (Eva, Ave...), and it looks like an oximoron while "adam" (אדם) means "person". הראש (talk) 09:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
