– McDonald was a runholder from Gisborne, New Zealand. Looking at 1879 election coverage, there is not a single instance that he is referred to as MacDonald in the local paper, The Poverty Bay Herald. In fact, there are numerous advertisements placed by McDonald in that newspaper using "Mc" without an "a". The article title comes from Wilson, the standard work for New Zealand politicians, but it's not the only instance where he got the spelling of a name wrong. Looking at the Australian politician, he does not appear to be the primary topic, and given that we now have three Allan McDonalds, I have set up a dab page.
