Talk:Carsten Nicolai

This article should not be deleted. Carsten Nicolai is a serious contributor of contemporary electronic and experimental music. Both as an artist and record company creator/ manager. I'm not that familiar with citing events, and this article could use more specifics. So, instead, I added in the information most readily available; from my record collection. This article should be kept. or perhaps moved under Carsten Nicolai? since he does have more releases from his other AKA, "Noto?" Please remove the 'Delete Notice.'

This article could use rewriting. For example, what does "[Noto] uses art and music as hybrid tools to create microscopic views of creative processes" mean? Descriptions of his music tend to be vague and without substance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SMannion (talkcontribs) 17:10, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Elaborating on the last comment... Do statements such as "Nicolai plays with the rules of physicality... Sound is changed and evolved into time and space and transformed by looping oscillators and tone generators" belong in an encyclopedia? Understandably, most articles on relatively obscure musicians are usually written by one die-hard fan and then left unrevised (esp. when filled with heaps of passionate praise). Unfortunately, many people (such as myself) tend to go straight to Wikipedia when they are trying to find out more about an artist that they have just heard of, and articles written like this imply that someone who listens to this music is also likely to be long winded and probably stoned on acid. This should definitely be re-written with only helpful facts. Also, the section that reads: "The sounds of electronic information transmission such as fax tones, modem sounds and telephone pops and clicks are sampled and organised into loops to which Nicolai adds longer electronic tones in the background and foreground as the piece progresses" seems to describe only one song, unless Alva Noto is unusually formulaic in his compositions.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.207.113.136 (talk) 07:32, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you should listen to some of his music, and then come back here and report on what you've found. AlexReynolds (talk) 23:43, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alva NotoCarsten Nicolai – the article "Alva Noto" is about the artist Carsten Nicolai, who is unsing Alva Noto just as a pseudonym for his musical work. Kaethe17 (talk) 14:42, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Relisted. 2pou (talk) 19:40, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 17:39, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's not a stage-name like “Bono": Nicolai is also – and better – known under his real name, as a visual artist and as a teacher. You can read about it in the article, which speaks repeatedly about "Carsten Nicolai": Because "Alva Noto" is only a subset of "Carsten Nicolai". I would like to add a list of his exhibitions and more about his art, but it seems weird, as they are the exhibitions and it's the art of Nicolai, not Noto. (see for example bio on www.pacegallery.com). Plus, I can't write it in the article about Nicolai, as it is only a redirect to Noto.--Kaethe17 (talk) 20:04, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: @Kaethe17: Perhaps if you list some of the sources you plan to use for the art contributions it would be easier for the community to decide which is the common name.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, 2pou (talk) 19:40, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes of course 2pou:

I got more material, do you need it? --Kaethe17 (talk) 15:05, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear 2pou, how long will the discussion take and is there anything more I can do to help with it? I don't want to hurry anybody, but it's 10 days now since I posted the links you asked for. Kaethe17 (talk) 15:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
