This bit of trivia doesn't really belong in the article, but it's too good not to share. After American Relief Administration extended its operations into Russia and then into Ukraine, a joke went the rounds among the jews of Kiev: ARA stood for "Amerike Ratevet Aleman"--"America Rescues Everyone". :) I saw it in the book A Century Of Ambivalence: The Jews of Russia and the Soviet Union, 1881-1981. The ARA's immediate predecessor was not the Belgian Relief but the United States Food Administration. The $ 20,000,000 came out of the capital of the Food Administration Grain Corporation. In autumn 1919 the name of the ARA had been changed to American Relief Administration European Children's Fund.---92.229.252.108 (talk) 18:47, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article says: "The ARA's operations in Russia were shut down on June 15, 1923, after it was discovered that Russia renewed the export of grain." In fact Russia started the export of grain already in 1922. The ARA knew about it and accepted the reasons. ----130.83.197.103 (talk) 10:18, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
