It states here that the idea for the film came in part from a Sarah Michelle Gellar interview on Jimmy Kimmell, but that's not actually possible as the filming was done in November of 2011, and that interview aired on November 14th (or the 13th or so if they oct the videos online a bit afterwards). The script would have been done well before that, not to mention all the preproduction and much of the filming.
