incomprehensible entry

Known to the counter-culture as "National Smoke-Out Day", April 20th has long been known to be the day that "stoners" celebrate getting "high". Columbine-Like

I put up a Note on the April 20 page noting that students often choose it to attempt a school shooting in memory of Columbine. Does anyone disagree with that?

I'd just like to mention,

Holidays such as "Birth of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf)

Please stop reverting this. This is based on the Islamic Lunar Calendar and not on the Gregorian calendar. If you wish to add such holidays not based on the Gregorian calendar, then you might as well add EVERY holiday on every single date they occured that isn't based on the Gregorian calendar. Such as (examples, may not be true):

April 18 1849 - Birth of Muhammad (pbuh&hf) April 19 1850 - Birth of Muhammad (pbuh&hf)

It is pointless to put those things down for Gregorian dates. However, it is good to put them down for their dates on their correct calendar (eg Muhammad's (pbuh&hf) birth for 17 Rabi'l-Awwal on the Islamic calendar). Thanks! Armyrifle 00:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Cannabis culture

April 20 is a very important day for cannabis smokers worldwide. Many protests against anti-cannabis laws happen on this day. This should not be removed from the article just because the holiday is not "official". I agree. Over 20 million Americans smoke marijuana and many of them celebrate this holiday even though it is not sanctioned by the US government. Furthermore, this isn't exclusive to Americans. Even arguing from an antidrug standpoint, if parents were to hear their kids talking about celebrating 420 or April 20th, they may like to find out why that is. Adding Daijiro Kato to the list of Deaths for this entry

Daijiro Kato, a MotoGP rider died on April 20th, 2003. He has an entry on Wikipedia, but I think that he should be included on the April 20th page as well.

Cleanup Request

The quality of this article is absolutely appalling. I understand why it's locked, but that doesn't justify the unprofessional nature of the content within. Who gives a damn if this article is vandalized frequently. It is not notable at all. Same with the speculation regarding the whole "110 day of the year, 110 years since Hitler's birthday" bit in the part about Columbine. This article is about April 4th and anything relevant to that date. Cleanup of births and deaths

In accordance with the guidelines, I'm continuing to weed the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort. Hello! This is in reference to my past request about changing the format of the page (I don't know how to continue that request). Where am I able to submit this request for discussion? The main reason I wanted this page to change was to allow the WikiAPI for Python to be able to parse the page. The edit would essentially be changing the formatting from what it currently is, to something akin to this, this, or this. If the current version for the page is the new standard for how all of the pages for the days of the year will look, then I'm happy to keep the page and ask for all pages in days of the year to be converted to the same format. The only thing I need is for all of the pages to have consistent HTML. This lets me and all users of the WikiAPI use the portions of the pages we need in the code we write.

If all of the pages for the days of the year are planned to be changed, please let me know. I would love to help in the conversion. Thank you. Tamoor622498 (talk) 01:13, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

@Tamoor622498: What specifically do you need changed for it to work? Day-of-the-year article formatting is considered static and drastic changes will not happen without community consensus. All I notice that is different is that this page has more subheadings. The sub-divisions, to break up massive birth lists in particular, are being rolled out across all 366 date pages after discussion at WP:DOY. The changes are being done gradually and the process is nowhere near complete. I do not see how it could affect whatever the "parsing" is seeking to achieve. @Ganbaruby and @No Great Shaker: The old formatting would generate HTML code that was essentially a heading like Events followed by the list under it. This made it so that if I wanted to grab the entire Events section, I would have my program start at Events and continue down until I encountered another heading. Now that there are sub-divisions, the list of events is split up into smaller lists separated by headings like "pre-19th century". I can update my code to work with this change, but then it would not work for the old format. The only thing I really needed was consistency in how all pages look. Seeing as how this new formatting is planned to roll out across all DOY pages, I think it would be best if I just waited until all of the pages had similar formatting.

Also, I'd really like to help in updating the pages. Is there a style guide I can reference to see how all these pages should look? The page for April 20 and April 21 are still a bit different even after the update. I was thinking about following the April 21 style, but if there is an official one, I could just as easily use that. Tamoor H (talk) 10:41, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

@Tamoor622498: I assume that the consensus that No Great Shaker is talking about is at this discussion, which is to follow Wikipedia:WikiProject Days of the year/Template. I will note that NGS created more subheadings on this page compared to the template, for some reason. If you would like, you may start adding these subheadings to other dates.
