The result of the move request was: no consensus. As Gonnym quite rightfully points out, this means that these articles should revert to their original titles as they were only recently moved. Number 57 17:46, 8 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

– Per WP:MOSISLAM. Plus, these were moved without any discussion. Charles Essie (talk) 19:14, 6 July 2020 (UTC) Relisting. (t · c) buidhe 14:45, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 04:47, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Al Ameer son and Kwamikagami: I'd like you to join this discussion. Charles Essie (talk) 19:15, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The proposed names show that the word Baʽath contains a hamza, when it actually contains an ayin. These are completely different consonants in Arabic, and dismissing them implies contempt for the language. If we made similar "I can't tell the difference so who cares" changes to European languages, people would be upset at the anglocentrism.
For example, take the articles in List of cities and towns in the Czech Republic. Would it be appropriate to move them all to ASCII forms, just because many English speakers don't know the difference between ř and r or ě and e? Or consider Hawaiian personal and place names, where we're careful to maintain the ʻokina and macron.
If there's some technical reason that we shouldn't use proper transcription of Arabic names in titles, then perhaps we can display them correctly using {{DISPLAYTITLE}}. — kwami (talk) 23:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment. Both of the above arguments are compelling to me. Regardless of whether these articles are moved or not, the lead sentence of each should contain the strict transliteration distinguishing the ayin from the hamza as their pronunciations are very different (and per WP:MOSAR/WP:MOSISLAM). • Support per WP:MOSISLAM. If anyone disagrees with the guideline, go to that page and start a discussion to change it. Also, to any closer, this should have been opened at "revert undiscussed moves", so a no-consensus should revert to the names before the undiscussed move.--Gonnym (talk) 09:43, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: original titles restored by User:ZI Jony after request at WP:RM/TR. DrKay (talk) 15:45, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

– These articles were moved again without discussion. Let's discuss it. Charles Essie (talk) 03:22, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Neutral. I'm usually very against foreign word titles with diacritics in them, as that is usually not the most common English spelling. But in this case the Google Ngrams indicate that both spellings are used roughly equally.[1] Rreagan007 (talk) 14:15, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
