I have made extensive changes. I am not convinced anyone locally describes themselves as living in 'Ashburton' as opposed to Addiscombe and Shirley. Moreover I am not sure they ever did. 'Stroud Green' was the historic name of the farm area around what is now the learning village. Landmarks like Our Lady's RC church on Bingham Road just over Shirley Road are firmly in Shirley, and as soon as you leave Ashburton Park to the west you are in Addiscombe.
In terms of Ashburton ward, it covers the Glade in Shirley (old Monks Orchard), and what people describe as Addiscombe high street - the east half of Lower Addiscombe Road from Addiscombe tramstop. Upper Shirley (around the Sandrock and Surprise, and Addington Hills) is in Heathfield ward. Martín (saying/doing) 09:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
