Is there a confirmation of the assignment of Walter Villadei to this mission somewhere. I have seen official word that there will be someone from the Italian Ministry of Defense, for this mission, and as far as I know Walter Villadei is the only person in the Italian Ministry of Defense to have undergone astronaut training, but I have not found any statement connecting both facts so far. Every italian astronaut except Umberto Guidoni came from the italian MOD (mainly the air force, they are essentially the ones who decide who in Italy goes into orbit).
Villadei did not receive training as an astronaut but as a cosmonaut: he was rejected for the ESA selection but the MOD wanted at all costs to have him trained as a cosmonaut in Russia and this generated some controversy here in Italy due to the enormous sum expense. I note that Axiom Space in their communication uses the dotless i (which is a different lettre in Turkish) for the name of Alper Gezeravcı. Hektor (talk) 10:24, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
