Spelling of first name

edit

I suggest to move the article from: "Azriel Carlebach" to "Ezriel Carlebach", with the first line giving all the name variants as it is already now shown at the beginning of the article.

Here is why:

The transliteration of Carlebach's given name and his surname in Latin letters is somewhat confusing. Many sources, especially those unacquainted with the Latin spelt version of his name quote his surname as Karlibakh or Karlibach. So I suggest these versions to be added in the finding function. I just don't know how. Sources using Karlibakh or Karlibach almost always use the given name in the version Azriel. In Hebrew spelling this doesn't make any difference, for short vowels are usually not indicated by a letter.

Especially Libraries holding Carlebach's works printed in languages using Latin letters quote his full name as Esriel Carlebach, because this was the spelling used in the respective books in German, Hungarian or Swedish. This spelling is unsuited, because the Hebrew given name has in second position the letter zayyin (ז), which is misrepresented by the Latin letter "s", which tends to be pronounced sharply in the position given in the name Ezriel, while the letter "z" is pronounced in many major languages using Latin letters like the Hebrew letter zayyin.

Therefore in scientific Israeli sources and libraries the given name is usually transliterated Ezriel. Especially those authors, who were friends of Carlebach (like Shalom Rosenfeld cf. Shalom Rosenfeld, 'Recollections of Ezriel Carlebach and the Founding of 'Ma'ariv' ', in: Kesher; No. 30, May 2002) or are else acquainted with Carlebach's own pronounciation of his given name, type his name in Latin letters like Ezriel (Cf. Mordecai Naor, 'The Great 'Putsch' in Israel's Press History', in: Kesher; Nr. 33, Mai 2003). The "E" in the beginning hinders to pronounce the first letter like an "a" in "father" (as is usual in many English pronuntiations).

The "E" in a short sylable is pronounced in major languages using Latin letters like in English "best". This is what represents at best the way of the given names original pronuntiation.

Therefore I suggest to move the article the way mentioned above. If agreed upon I would take the effort to adjust the existing links in other articles and to the parallel articles in Hebrew, German and Arabic.
