Recent changes/material to be included
editAs I said in my previous edit summary, I disagree with including the European parliamentary election results here. It clutters up the page with more stats which are not relevant to the subject of this article and would be better off in an article like Elections in Barcelona Province or whatever. Those distract from the actual focus of this article (the parliamentary election results) and seem to be against WP:INDISCRIMINATE: "Excessive listings of statistics. Long and sprawling lists of statistics may be confusing to readers and reduce the readability and neatness of our articles. In addition, articles should contain sufficient explanatory text to put statistics within the article in their proper context for a general reader.....Where it is not necessary....omit excess statistics altogether." In this case I don't see the context. European elections are entirely separate elections and are, if anything, the least important ones to include, as they are clearly less important to the average citizen than Catalan parliamentary elections and even municipal elections. - But the problem of making a separate Elections in Barcelona Province would be:
- 1. They would also have to include results for general elections, and in that case we will have two articles showing essentially the same information.
- 2. Provinces are not electoral districts exclusive to the Congress of Deputies; they are also electoral districts for regional parliamentary elections, while also having strong importance when it comes to show provincial results for European or local elections.
- 3. The way I did the maps being showing in the election infobox for the 2011, 2008, 2004 and 2000 general elections, as well as 2014 and 2009 is done so that one can redirect to each province and see the election result and be able to compare it to other elections in a rather comfortable way. Having different articles would make this more complicated to accomplish
- 4. If the issue is the lengthy of the tables, maybe those can be sorted out to show just the main parties. I took it as a custom to add all parties above the 0.01% mark as a result of my edits being reverted some time ago on the earlier Spanish elections (1977-1993) by an user claiming that all parties should be present. Since it seemed coherent to me then, I proceeded to do that in all elections ever since. However, for Electoral Districts maybe this is not necessary, and it could be rather excessive. I can solve this if needed. Also, in order to simplify those graphs showing the main parties' % can be removed if they occupy too much.
- 5. About this "European elections are entirely separate elections and are, if anything, the least important ones to include, as they are clearly less important to the average citizen" I should say that this could have been the case before, but the repercussion of the results of the last European election has been much greater than usual, for several reasons (bipartisanship sinking to an all-time low of 49%, Podemos' surge, ERC winning in Catalonia for the first time since the 1930s, etc). Comparatively they can be least important than general or regional parliamentary elections (due to the low turnout), but that doesn't means that their results are unimportant or that they should be ignored. European parliament
editWhat is the purpose of including here european election results in the province of Barcelona? According to the title the scope of this particular entry seems to stick to a very specific topic: results for the electoral district of the province of Barcelona in the Congress of Deputies. The province of Barcelona is not a electoral district for the european election, but the whole country, and of course we are not dealing with the Spanish Congress of Deputies, but another different body. I don't think election results below the constituency/district level are that much notable per se in an enciclopedia, but if determined to include them, I suggest to create an entry in the likes of "Election results in the province of Barcelona" instead of including them here.--Asqueladd (talk) 10:48, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
