Move?

edit

The link I followed to this page described this as the "Second Battle of Fort Wagner", which seems a more logical title; given also the article on the previous battle is titled the "First battle of Fort Wagner".
So, I propose moving this page to Second Battle of Fort Wagner.

Order of Battle

edit

The Order of Battle for this engagement is complicated. A diagram of the deployed units in relationship to the fort and topography would be very useful. Lionelt (talk) 22:11, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Medal of Honor

edit

This article probably mentions the medal of honor for not letting the flag touch the ground, but not in the aftermath section. Would it be relevant to include it here since the medal was awarded much later, then rescinded then restored?--Senor Freebie (talk) 15:50, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Numbers

edit

The numbers given for wounded, dead, missing, and others appear to be faulty. Page 42 of the book "On the Altar of Freedom" gives much more accurate numbers on what happened, but this needs to be verified. 67.253.244.112 (talk) 03:37, 7 April 2011 (UTC)S.D.R.Reply

Sometimes

edit

"The 54th Massachusetts, an infantry regiment sometimes composed of African-American soldiers"

Does this mean that the racial makeup of the regiment changed often and that it was usually a composed of white soldiers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bloodsportforall (talkcontribs) 14:35, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Decisive"???

edit

I'm not sure it is correct to call this a "decisive" victory for the south. (In the summary box). The storming of the fort in July was repulsed. But the battle and the siege continued, and the fort eventually had to be abandoned by the Confederates because of water shortages and continuing union bombardment. I would call it a tactical victory for the south and a strategic victory for the north. But in any case not a "decisive" victory. In the wiki description of Gettysburg there is some debate as to whether the battle was "decisive" but I see much less to debate here. They had to defend the fort, they lost control of it after a prolonged siege. I don't know whether the "battle" should be defined as simply the day of the 54th's assault. The battle of Vicksburg went on for many weeks. If the South did well during one of those weeks you don't say that week was a "decisive" victory for the South. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gn842 (talkcontribs) 19:09, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
