Marvin the Paranoid Android

edit

Did anybody ever noticed some similarities between Bender's personality and Marvin the Paranoid Android's personality? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Popopp (talkcontribs) 13:26, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Benders Gender

edit

First of all, Bender is a machine. Why does he even have a gender entry? Notable robotic characters such as C-3PO, R2D2 or the T-1000 do not have one for example. The T-800 has a gender entry as "male human tissue exterior", which makes sense. Apart from his voice Bender has no innately male attributes. I think it would be best to remove the entry.

Of course I am aware that in the Futurama universe robots can be male or female, but somebody who has to read up on Wikipedia to know who Bender is probably would not know that. Hence, without providing a link that explains robotic genders in Futurama the entry is entirely misleading.

But even if we take knowledge of robotic genders in Futurama as a given, whether or not Bender is male is not clear. Bender presents as female in at least three episodes of the show without any notable discomfort. As far as his personality is concerned he is either ambivalent about his own gender or gender fluid.

In episode 67 Bender's robotic gender is mechanically altered making her a female robot as far as the standards of robotic genders in Futurama are concerned. During the procedure to change her back the professor explains that if any mistakes were made Bender would be "trapped between genders". The episode strongly implies that this may have happened.

If the entry remains it should be changed to a term that reflects the complexities of Bender's experience of gender. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpahlen (talkcontribs) 19:06, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
