Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Naval Auxiliary Air Facility Beverly be merged into Beverly Municipal Airport. I think that the content in Naval Auxiliary Air Facility Beverly can easily be explained in the Beverly Municipal Airport article, and the airport article is of a reasonable size that the merging will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Also, the Naval Auxiliary Air Facility article has only one source and may fail the Notability requirement of significant coverage in reliable sources. • Oppose There are multiple sources that state that this exists, and there is already consensus on the MILHIST project that these sorts of facilities are notable. I fail to see why we should merge this if there is an entire template down below (which I created and have populated, just to put that out there) with even more minute things than this. Simply stating something exists is not significant coverage. If the subject of an article does not does receive significant coverage in multiple sources, it is not notable enough for a standalone article. Based on the sources provided, the article does not meet the general notability guide. Also, just because there are articles about even more minute things doesn't mean that the Naval Auxiliary Air Facility Beverly is notable enough for its own article. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 01:22, 27 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
We are talking about something which was closed almost seventy years ago. I highly doubt that there are going to be a multitude of sources on the facility, as much of what exists on this site is backed up on the internet. Just because there aren't sources out there that we can't find doesn't mean that there aren't sources on it, as I suspect that there is a lot of information in local papers that haven't been digitized and thrown on the internet. I fail to see why we shouldn't have an article, as there are many pages in this category that have one citation. Unless I am paid to travel two and a half hours to Beverly, I highly doubt that anyone is going to travel that way in order to find significant coverage in multiple sources to your level of asking. Comment A discussion has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history on general standards for military installations, and I believe any move decision on this facility should be delayed until it can be seen if a consensus can be reached there. Note that the current Naval Auxiliary Air Facility Beverly article does not merely state the station's existence, but cites a source dealing with improvements made, units stationed there, and commissioning and decommissioning dates. --Lineagegeek (talk) 13:45, 28 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
