editto whom it may concern - get some pics for this !!! WoodElf 15:39, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- I live in salk lake, Kolkata. I will try to post some photos very soon.
Offtopic : If you work for salt lake municipality/government, please plan and make proper roads in sector 5. Roads should be broad atleast 3 lanes, because number of people working in sector 5 will increase dramatically in coming years. Roads should have footpaths. There is urgent need of Bus Stand in sector 5. Right now buses stop on the roads, causing traffic congestion and accidents. Please do not wait till TATA motors launch 150000 Rs car, anticipate the future traffic scenarios.
Urgent improvement in road infrastructure is needed, if you want more companies to invest here. Thanks.
- no, i dont work for the municipality, but completely agree with you on the hopeless infra. situation.plz leave your signature next time so i can contact you.WoodElf 08:31, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
"Namesake"
edit- The article refers to Salt Lake City, USA as the "namesake" of this place, but that would mean that SLC, India was actually named after the capital city of Mormonism. I find that hard to believe. Is it true? Or should we change this word "namesake"? Djiann 15:42, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- Salt Lake City, USA was founded in 1847 and Bidhannagar was founded between 1958-1965 (according to the articles!) so it's possible. But there's nothing to support this, so I think that the sentence is misleading: I think the original author was trying to say that the two cities have the same name, but Bidhannagar is popularly called Salt Lake City because it was founded on reclaimed salt-water lakes. I will update the sentence. Dracunculus (talk) 17:35, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
External links
editI could not decipher why the external links of Nicco Park and City Centre are being removed again and again.Could the person give any cogent reason? Amitsanyal
- Hi! I removed the external links because they don't have any direct relationship with the Bidhannagar article. Nicco Park's and City Centre's official websites may be added to their respective articles. See Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:Spam for details. You may also like to create those articles and add the links. Hope that clarifies my stand. --Victor 19:38, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry Sir,I am not at all conviced. The determination of the relational locus is so subjective as not to be so easily commented on.To me,City Centre and Nicco Park are not so important items as to create separate articles upon.It appears to me,that they are only important in their direct locational relation to Bidhannagar.Strangely enough, you want to accord priority status to clicksaltlake.info, which is a private website and with responsibily I can vouchsafe that it contains myriads of serious mistakes(except a good interactive map) capable enough to mislead the people.Lastly, the heading contains an unpardonable mistake.Being a Bengali word,it should have been Bidhannagar instead of Bidhan Nagar.Amitsanyal
- Nicco Park was already created. As for City Centre I created it. Its very difficult to scale importance, but the topics are not trivial.
As for http://www.clicksaltlake.info, I removed it because Bidhannagar Municipality's site contains sufficient information (and also a map, though not clickable).
Bidhan Nagar is an incorrect form of Bengali, maybe we should consider renaming the page Bidhannagar. Thanks Amitsanyal. --Victor 04:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Proper name in Bengali
editI think its Bidhannagar in Bengali rather than Bidhan Nagar. If its the case we should rename the page. Please comment.--Victor 05:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's right. I live in Bidhannagar, and i can tell u that on every piece of Municipal stationary, the English name is given as Bidhannagar and not Bidhan Nagar. I am moving this article. --WoodElf 12:34, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Comments
editMajor works have been done in the article, especially the History section. Could the editors kindly provide the names(s) of reference that have been used to revamp the article? Regarding the name (Bidhannagar or Bidhan Nagar) I do not have any idea. What's the official way to write it in Government documents?--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:07, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Radomir Popovic, Belgrade (pradomir@ptt.yu) Sentence "Pipes were laid down from Ghushuri in Howrah to Salt Lake for bringing silt from the bed of Hooghly river to Salt Lake via a number of pumping stations." is not correct. Pipe line started from near Chitpure Lock Gate. Thanke you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.110.195.100 (talk • contribs) 13:08, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Wikify
editSome points:
- firstly, there are NO references or ext. links
- secondly, the wording of the article is not very fluent, could someone take a look at it?
--WoodElf 15:11, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also, why are the names of companies in CAPITALS??
Fair enough. I have moved the wikify tag to the appropriate section and added more specific tags for the other improvements you have identified. It helps other editors if you can add the most specific tags or comment on the talk page about what needs doing as it is not always obvious to someone who is not very familiar with the article.
