Blackwall was not named in the 18th century.

Blackwall is said to have got its name from the colour of the embankment wall constructed along the north side of the Thames during the 18th century.[1] It was created circa 17th century, have a look at this map http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/shepherd_1911/shepherd-c-074-075.jpg (right bottom corner) (talk • contribs) 01:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The district around `Blackwall' Stairs was known as 'Blackwall' by at least the fourteenth century
