Ammonia species

edit

The article makes reference to NH4. This species does not exist as such. I assume that what is intended is ammonia, NH3, but possibly NH4+ is meant. If the latter, the charge needs to appear on the right hand side of the equation. It is inappropriate, also, to enumerate the reactants and products, since one of them is of undefined composition, NOx. Furthermore, the occurrence of water, H2O, on both sides has to be redundant. I have therefore altered the reaction equation accordingly.--King Hildebrand 12:06, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Soot and nitrous oxides

edit

Soot and nitrous oxides are mutually exclusive to an extent. Higher combustion temperatures create more NOx and less soot. Lower combustion temperatures create less NOx and more soot. I don't have sources handy, so I didn't modify the actual article, other than to add a dubious tag to the factually incorrect statement. I'd appreciate if someone else can weigh in on this; if not, I'll try to find sources later when I have some time.-Stian (talk) 16:34, 17 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

NOx and cancer

edit

The article talks about "cancer-causing NOx" but the source quoted in that paragraph appears to make no mention of cancer. NOx can cause lung damage, but the carcinogenic effects of vehicle emissions seem linked to particulate matter and poly-cyclic hydrocarbons, not to NOx.Joewein (talk) 08:40, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
