Created Blue Ribbon fisheries article

edit

The article was created to help define and characterize the use of the term Blue Ribbon as it relates to fisheries. Many fisheries are formally designated Blue Ribbon, while many are informerly designated. Additional research is required to identify all the official Blue Ribbon designations in the U.S. and elsewhere.--Mike Cline (talk) 13:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

A couple of points: Regional searches using google suggest this term is not in general use, but is confined to North America. Even within North America the term does not currently have wide usage (<3000 hits). Also, it seems the fisheries referred to are recreational ones, and not fisheries in general. --Geronimo20 (talk) 23:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Geronimo20 - The Recreational aspect is a good point and I have added the term to the article. I am not sure of the extent of the official use of the term, but the colloquial or informal use is fairly widespread. There are acutally a fair number of publications entitled: Blue Ribbon Trout Streams of XXXXX, even through they are not official designations. Although certainly it is used more in N. America, I've located several instances of its use to characterize European waters. I intend to refrain from including the informal uses until I have completed all the necessary research on its official use. Thanks for the input. I am waiting to see that List of fly fishing waters of Australasia--Mike Cline (talk) 00:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should consider changing article title to "Blue Ribbon Fishery", as it is more clear and makes referencing in other articles easier.SeaNympho (talk) 07:36, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The following link to the MT fish, wildlife, and parks page is dead: http://fwp.mt.gov/FwpPaperApps/fishing/class1and2.pdf

The original article title is the following: MONT. FISH, WILDLIFE & PARKS, MFWP STREAM FISHERY CLASSIFICATION: 1999 FINAL SPORT FISHERIES VALUE, CLASS I AND II STREAMS

I searched MT FWP to try and find the pdf, and searched google, but no luck. Maybe someone else can find it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.45.96.123 (talk) 01:23, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

New Link: [1], Montana recently converted to a class system instead of blue/red ribbon designations. Here's an explaination [2] --Mike Cline (talk) 13:03, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
