Bolt (firearm) → Bolt (firearms) — Practically all other firearms disambiguation-type names are (firearms), not (firearm). See Magazine (firearms), Cartridge (firearms), Trigger (firearms), Safety (firearms), Chamber (firearms), Receiver (firearms), Cylinder (firearms), Muzzle (firearms), Rim (firearms). Photo
editIf I get a camera up and running, I can at least upload a picture of my Mosin's bolt. Faceless Enemy (talk) 20:29, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Breechblock vs. Bolt
editI tried to learn about the difference between Breechblock and Bolt (firearms), but neither article says anything about it. Yet both use the same pictures as illustrations.
- Why are the two articles designed this way? Are they written by different, competing authors? 91.10.36.182 (talk) 11:05, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- These articles should be merged. The bolt of an UZI isnt exactly circular in cross-section.--Blockhaj (talk) 05:28, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- As this article states:
The terms "breechblock" and "bolt" are often used interchangeably or without a clear distinction, though usually, a bolt is a type of breechblock that has a nominally circular cross-section.
This article is written on the basis of this distinction while the article Breechblock is broader in its coverage. Some of the breechblock types there would never be referred to as a bolt. Cinderella157 (talk) 10:22, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

- So we should remove telescoping bolts from the page?--Blockhaj (talk) 19:57, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Why? Cinderella157 (talk) 21:39, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Because they ain't circular in cross-section. Blockhaj (talk) 23:00, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Are you saying that none of them are nominally circular in cross section. Cinderella157 (talk) 02:49, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Adding Bolt Catch/Bolt release
editShould we add Bolt catch aka Bolt release into this page and create one about it? Because AR-15s, the Kriss Vector, the M16, the Skorpion EVO, the Grot and the SCAR have that. It's a much faster way to reload a gun Baltofan95 (talk) 11:54, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- FN FNC have it too, among other. Imo it is more related to detachable magazines but could have its own article.--Blockhaj (talk) 12:18, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- Probably not here but somewhere else. It is a feature of magazine fed auto and semi-autos and not all have a bolt as defined here - ie it is also known as a slide catch, particularly when referring to a breechblock rather than a bolt. Also, not all arms with a catch have a separate release, with the release being operated by the cocking handle. Cinderella157 (talk) 00:02, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
