Bushfires
edit"FORMER Channel Nine anchorman Brian Naylor is missing, possibly dead in the horrific Victorian bushfires. Channel Nine has confirmed that his wife's body has been found".http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2009/02/08/49481_news.html Alwimo (talk) 09:53, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Additional source for this... Channel Nine is reporting that veteran newsreader Brian Naylor, who had a house at Kinglake, is unaccounted for and that his wife Moiree has died in the blaze. - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/02/08/2485648.htm Rjch-au (talk) 10:08, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Second additional source... Channel Nine has just confirmed that the newsreading legend, who lives in fire-ravaged Kinglake West, can not be accounted for. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25025527-421,00.html --Rjch au (talk) 10:15, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Date of death
editThe fire is known to have hit Kinglake late on 7 February, therefore this would be the date of death. Victims are only now being identified and reported. The Sky News article clearly says the fire razed their property on Saturday[2] 59.167.38.253 (talk) 10:59, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- We can't assume that the date of the death was the day of the fire or even the cause of the death. We should use the date reported when the body was found and wait until the coroner findings. Bidgee (talk) 11:13, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- The article clearly states the bushfire razed the property on Saturday. It is blindingly obvious the date of death is not 8 February. 59.167.38.253 (talk) 11:36, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- The date the fire went though doesn't state that 7th was the day he died. All you're doing is assuming. Bidgee (talk) 11:39, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

- Wikipedia relies on verifiability, not truth, nor original research. Just wait. The facts will be revealed in time. The announcement was made on the 8th. That's all we can verify at this time. -- Longhair\talk 11:43, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- The facts are clearly stated in the news report. Naylor is a victim of the fire. The fire burnt Kinglake West on Saturday 7 February. On 8 Feb were they confirmed dead after bushfires destroyed their property in Kinglake West, Victoria the previous day. Claiming 8 Feb as the date of death is original research and is not supported by the cited sources. 59.167.38.253 (talk) 12:13, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. It is also quite clear that the reason this information only came out today is that access to the Kinglake area was very difficult and dangerous--Rjch au (talk) 13:30, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Me too. I understand where Bidgee is coming from, and I'd normally support that, but in this case it would be absurd to think that he'd somehow escaped the fires on Saturday, only to be engulfed by them on Sunday. I suppose its possible that he and his wife were burned on Saturday, but didn't actually die till after midnight. If that's the case, a coroner's report will confirm, and we can then change the date. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:19, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I found a photo of him!!
editUp until today this article had no photo of Brian Naylor. Today by chance I found an old photo lying around and guess who was in it?? It was taken at a 1991 Camberwell High School re-union (which my father also went to). I scanned it and uploaded it just now. If anyone wants to clean up the image a bit, feel free. Davez621 (talk) 03:22, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well there is a problem ATM as the image page doesn't state who took the photograph (IE: Not who scanned it). If you didn't take the photograph and someone else did then the copyright is still owned by the photographer. We will no doubt need a email sent to OTRS from the copyright owner saying that they will release the photo under the GNU license or some other free such as a Creative Commons (CC-BY or CC-BY-SA) or a Public Domain license. Schooling
editThis article states that Brian went to Camberwell High until the onset of WW2 when the school was relocated to Balwyn High. There are two problems with this: (1) Camberwell High did not open until 1941 and (2) Balwyn High did not open until 1954. Other Wikipedia pages on these school histories report that Melbourne High students were relocated to Camberwell High during the war. Presumably this is what happened to Brian and the article should be revised accordingly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardcarvel (talk • contribs) 10:29, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Requested move 24 April 2020
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Consensus to move Brian Naylor → Brian Naylor (racing driver) and disambiguate Brian Naylor buidhe 20:42, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
– Looking at the broadcaster's page views, I think the racing driver is not the primary topic. NASCARfan0548 ↗ 22:23, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Note: target or "new" titles cannot have non-redirected content unless they are to be moved or deleted. So this request has been altered to reflect that fact. P.I. Ellsworth ed. put'r there 03:55, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, make a DAB at base name Brian Naylor. No WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Ortizesp (talk) 01:41, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support. There is no need for a dab page, since the broadcaster appears to be the primary topic if page views are any indication. P.I. Ellsworth ed. put'r there 03:57, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I'm not going to comment (yet) on whether Brian Naylor (broadcaster) is the primary topic but I think its clear that Brian Naylor (racing driver) isn't the primary topic.

- Disambiguate all - such primary swaps are dangerous because incoming links take time to adjust. Best to disambiguate all and put a dab at primary. -- Netoholic @ 04:47, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Neutral – when you have only two articles, you don't need a disambiguation page. cookie monster (2020) 755 06:44, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
