The Moskovskyi Bridge.

edit

Isn't the Moskovskyi Bridge a sable stayed bridge rather than a suspension bridge? I haven't seen the structural drawings, but I am a bridge engineer, and looking at the photograph, it looks more like a cable stayed bridge. Unless there are vertical suspender cables that I don't see, I think this article may misclassify it. --Turpin (talk) 09:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Moving

edit

I moved this from "Kiev bridges" to "List of bridges in Kiev" on the grounds that the article is essentially a list (compare: List of bridges in Cambridge) and the format for lists of bridges in localities in generally "List of bridges in Foo" rather than "List of Foo bridges", a format that is generally used for bridges over the River Foo. The addition of the word "list" is not meant to denigrate this article at all; rather, it seems appropriate as more than one bridge is dealt with. Presumably articles for the individual bridges will appear at a later date; it would still be worth leaving a short entry here and including a "Main article: Moskovskyi Bridge" type link. --TheGrappler 17:56, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do not move articles without proposing at talk and giving others time to respond. It is a simple informal courtesy. No one demands a WP:RM listing but checking with involved editors is always a good idea.
I moved the article back. This is certainly not a list article. Please wait for what others would say before any other moves. Thanks! --Irpen 18:10, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's not a list of bridges, but description of bridges. I'm against the move. Uapatriot 18:46, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I moved it at "Bridges in Kiev", for standardization with other articles which use the "<structures> in <location>" template. I hope nobody minds. :-) bogdan 19:08, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
My apologies for ticking people off, would have been a good idea to consult on this one. Kiev bridges was certainly misformed which is why I decided to be bold. Looking around, the page this seemed closest to in style and format was the List of bridges in Cambridge (which also contains descriptions) so I picked "List of ..." for a title; while this is more than a bullet point list, it certainly does list the bridges in Kiev, ergo it is a list of sorts. Bogdan had the right idea though, I think, so thanks. --TheGrappler 02:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

WP:DYK

edit

(Copied from my talk page, there is concern about some of the cites in the article ++Lar: t/c 01:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC))Reply

There is another claim on WP:DYK which needs to be substantiated: *... that the 1,543 metres long Paton Bridge over the Dnieper River, constructed in 1953, was the first fully welded steel construction of such length in the world to the date of construction? --Ghirla | talk 09:20, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

The structurae entry is here: http://en.structurae.de/structures/data/index.cfm?ID=s0005660 it confirms the length (but only 1500m not 1543), designer, and construction date but not the welded claim. Did you ask the article author (it looks like user:DDima added the info)? This site: http://www.nas.gov.ua/pwj/e03no10.html gives a glimmer that it might be true. This is the same article but it's only a precis, not the whole article: http://www.iaw.com.ua/english/conferences/curre.html ... Borys_Paton refers to it being the first welded bridge in Kiev. So on judgement, without further cites, I'd say "not confirmed", but "possible". Hope that helps. Next time, feel free to ask at the bridges project page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Bridges), as others there are better researchers than I. Happy editing! ++Lar: t/c 00:50, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
PS see this article... http://www.ukraine-observer.com/articles/193/324 it corroborates well... if it's europe's longest of any sort it may be the longest welded. ++Lar: t/c 01:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

-- end copy --

If I may be so bold, this article could benefit from more sourcing of some of the facts, and links to other sites with the bridge info... the structurae site is quite good. I hope the links I gave above are of some assistance. Happy editing, seems a neat project! ++Lar: t/c 01:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Podolskyi Railroad Bridge

edit
  1. When was the bridge initially constructed?
  2. When was it rebuilt after WWII?

У 1929 році у північній частині Києва через Дніпро перекинули ще один залізничний міст — Подільський, або Петрівський. Під час війни він не зазнав значних руйнувань. Відтак уже в 1944-му його відбудували.

  • According to the current version of the article, the bridge was constructed during WWI and was rebuilt in 1954.

I think the case here is a different undertanding between transit and reconstruction. It may well have been that in 1944 using temporary measures transit could have been resotred, but the bridge was not fully repaired until 10 years later. --Kuban Cossack   11:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Harbour Bridge is Rybalskyi (Cable, Havanskyi) bridge?

edit

I assumed it is so, if not then my last edit was wrong... — Mariah-Yulia (talk) 17:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, that are two different bridges. Rybalskyi bridge previously was open for traffic, but then it began staggering and was turned into pedestrian one. I don't even know if it is available for walking now. What about Harbour/Havanskyi bridge, it was opened in the 2007-2008 winter season and is working only with one direction (Podil -> Petrivka) nowadays (also it's expected to be opened with another direction soon). However, they are parallel and the latter one was mostly built instead of the former one. --//Microcell// 13:34, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Updating our bridges

edit

I did my best to update the article regarding the two new bridges. Also created separate main New Darnytskyi Bridge article since we have enough information and newspages on that project. Everyone is invited to improve the article (mostly by improving the news references) as well as to create new page on the second bridge in construction. I suggest that we keep those construction details in particular bridges' articles, and not here. Hopefully, this enhances our wishful thinking so that we would get more bridges soon thus making this article too long to be detailed :). Ukrained (talk) 05:08, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Would be nice to have detailed articles on all of these bridges, as well as a FA or something for this main article here, I just don't have enough time to finish it.. I've started enough projects here on enWiki that have been waiting for completion for years!! If I get around to it I'll start the article on the Podilskyi Bridge--especially as the bridge is nearing completion!
I've also added some info to the ND Bridge article... correct me if I am wrong, the bridge is (well obviously) located in the Darnytsia Raion on the left bank, and the Holosiiv Raion on the right? (or is it still the Pechersk Raion--the maps aren't very clear about this) _dsergiyenko 04:04, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Stubbed Podilsko-Voskresensky Bridge which is instrumental for keeping new raw information there while simultaneously tidying this article up to FA level. Don't forget to let me know how can I help with the latter. Ukrained (talk) 21:08, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
